B M Myers of Floresville, connected with Floresville Quick Service Station, narrowly escaped a gasoline delivery mishap last Friday noon. His truck stalled near his home after he shut it off, a fire reportedly sparked by an ignition mishap but Meyer fled in time to avoid injury.
A Baptist Ladies meeting in Floresville outlines cooperative work with local Christian women, a $175.25 report showing donations and pledges toward a 75 Million Campaign, and a Monday program on Struggles for Liberty in America led by Mrs Lane with music by Mrs J J Boggs. The issue also notes a Mayor lecture for seventh graders on banking and an obituary for Jonathan James Polley, plus county agent BE Beck acquiring a 2640 egg Buckeye incubator to boost Wilson county poultry.
Evangelist John M Rice of Abilene will preach at the Church of Christ in Floresville next Sunday night at 7 15. He promises a strong message and invites all to attend. The following night Jasmine Chapter No 271 C H 8 holds a regu lar meeting with important business and initiation of candidates. all members urged to attend with visiting members invited to meet with Mrs H J Price, W M and Miss Lucy Neal, Secretary.
W D Farris of Ennis was unanimously re elected president of the Texas Farm Bureau Federation for 1925 at the final session of the fifth annual convention in Dallas. H G Lucas of Brownwood was elected vice president after Harvey Williams declined due to duties with the Cotton Association. The group endorsed cotton acreage reduction and diversified farming, approved the current State Farm Bureau form, and endorsed tick eradication. Nancy Jane Bundrick, 68, died at her brother D F Bundrick’s near Floresville, with burial at Stockdale Cemetery after services by Rev S E Dodd. She was born in Georgia, lived with the Bundrick family for years, and leaves sorrowing kin and many friends.
A summary of voter views on agriculture policy notes a Secretary of Agriculture with broad economics knowledge backed by favorable cotton reports and calls for state cooperation with the Bureau of Biological Survey via Texas A&M. Also announced are Floresville Cemetery Association and an Income Tax Deputy visit on Feb 9.
A Texas group of ministers and laymen formed to oppose uniting the Northern and Southern Methodist Church divisions. The Central and Northwest Texas conferences named a steering group and planned a state meeting in Waco on March 4 to mobilize against the plan. A Franklin touring car said to belong to a candy salesman traveling from San Antonio caught fire in front of the Paul Schmidt Meat Market around noon Wednesday. The fire department arrived quickly and extinguished the flames with little damage to the car. Crowds gathered, fearing the Market was burning as the incident circulated townwide.
Constables from DeWitt and Lavaca counties arrested about 125 motorists in Yoakum over two days for operating without 1925 auto licenses. Courts of Justices B. J. Wade and B. L. Temple were crowded Tuesday and Wednesday.
