Longtime Floresville Farmer Frank Castro Sr. Laid to Rest

Frank Castro Sr. of Floresville died after a stroke at Memorial Hospital on December 20 1965 and was buried December 22. He was born November 2 1874 and married Pilar Coy in 1901, leaving four living children and several grandchildren. Funeral directions were by M C Palacios. Also notes include ASCS transfer deadline extensions to January 3 1966 and farm allotment reminders.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas Doiron received an electric blanket as a gift, with best wishes to a future band member, Michelle Doiron, and guests included Mr. and Mrs. J Henry Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Don Boting, Uncle Fritz Teltschik, Aunt Millie Teltschik, Mrs. Myrtis Teltschik, and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Doiron.

Wilson County Commissioner honored at Floresville dinner

A large crowd of South Texas leaders and friends gathered Sunday night at Recreation Mall to honor Wilson County Commissioner Benito J. Jimenez for 15 years as Precinct 1 commissioner. U S Rep Henry B Gonzales spoke on unity and education. The event, hosted by Lulac Council and GI Forum, featured remarks by Sam Fore Jr and presentations to Jimenez.

Snake flunks fishing test at Woodville sighting

Luther Owens of Woodville witnessed a water moccasin attempt to swallow a 12 inch catfish. The snake began at the tail and failed as the fish reached the fins. The moccasin slipped away into drift logs, leaving the outcome a probable tie.

Thirty three St Marys University students including four women have been nominated for the 1966 Who s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Dr Thoma J Treadaway SM registrar says nominations focus on scholarship leadership citizenship and future promise. LeRoy R Moczygemba of Poth is among the selected men.

Floresville Man Killed By His Brother In Law

A pre Christmas party at a south Bexar County dance hall ended in a fatal shooting early Friday. Jesus Arrambide, 28, of Floresville, was shot outside the Hill Top Dance Hall and Cafe by his brother in law Patrolman Pete Casarez Jr., 26, who was jailed for murder after a scuffle over a pistol. Casarez was wounded in the hand during the incident and remained at the scene until police arrived. Arrambide died at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held for Arrambide, with pallbearers named among family and friends.

Bruce Lindley Defies Odds After Brain Surgery

Gordon and Barbara Lindley faced a life changing decision when Bruce suffered seizures from brain scar tissue. Surgeons gave a 50-50 chance to save him, Bruce survived the operation and spent two months in the hospital followed by two weeks of post operative care. The family now resides in Glenolden Pennsylvania with Gordon employed at an Aircraft Co in Philadelphia. If not operated Bruce would have worsened and likely died by age 16. Eighty dollars was saved for Bruce in a special account. Mrs Lindley is Bruce McCloskey’s daughter-in-law.

New Cotton Legislation Produces Dazzling Prospects

The new cotton legislation allows counties to sell or lease cotton across county lines with producer approval. A January 3 deadline governs signup to sell lease or buy allotments, with cross-line sales around 25 cents per pound and one-year leases about six cents. Wilson County reported a high rush, over a hundred contracts, amid wide countywide activity. Bexar saw limited in-county leasing. Local ASCS officials noted substantial farmer participation expected before the cutoff.

Lions Club Christmas Party Brings Local Residents Together

The Lions Club held its annual Christmas party on December 16 in Wright's Cafe private dining room. Guests included wives of members, local officials, and visiting relatives. Draft boards may seek 26 to 35 age range in Texas

State Selective Service director Colonel Morris S. Schwartz stated in a letter to college registrars that draft boards could extend the age range to 26 through 35 to fill armed forces quotas. He urged rapid reporting of students dropping below full time and emphasized excluding serious students who stay in school.
