Woman Dies On Christmas Day After 80 Years in Texas

Cand Meerman widow Camilla Pudsebe Myers aged about 80 died Christmas morning at 3 30 at her son Myers home a few miles north of Halletts Cove Texas. She moved from Georgia to Texas years ago and lived a long active life. Services were held at the Methodist Church Monday at 10 with Rev. A Wispe paying tribute and hymns. Her grave was decorated with flowers as mourners recalled a life of usefulness and devotion.

Changes in drivers to be sought by senator Kelley

Czech Play At School Here Next Sunday Night

H M Hornsby connected with the Highway Department has built a unique train and layout at the F B Seale home. He made it for his children Gren and Santa brought the train. Mr Hornsby and wife invite all the children of the town to visit their home today Friday 4 and 9 o clock and see this train in operation. You will be welcome.

Postoffice Here Does Big Christmas Holiday Business

The Floresville Postoffice saw rushed business this Christmas with heavy handling of packages letters and cards. The six-day holiday period was the heaviest in five years, with stamp sales and outgoing mail up sharply though postage in the six days before Christmas varied by year.

The Wilson County Soil Conservation Association held its third annual meeting on December 2 at Camp Richard M. Kleberg Recreation Hall. Directors elected were George Boening, A. D. Multiple Holiday Auto Accidents Reported Near Palacios

Several holiday car crashes leave Mr and Mrs R hie Powell and Miss Elizabeth Sheehy bruised but not seriously hurt. Powell car overturned on a rainy highway near Stockdale on Monday night returning from Palacios. Sheehy nearly escaped serious injury on Saturday night when her car slid on wet roads and struck a tree. she was thrown against the dashboard and windshield, losing several front teeth and sustaining body bruises while improving afterward. Christmas Cheer Brings Joy to Floresville Families

Nearly 100 households received added holiday gifts including toys fruit candy and clothing through a community effort. Mrs W D Hunters class at Floresville Grammar School made toys and donated items while townspeople served on ward committees and the Chronicle Journal facilitated the drive. The event brightened the Yuletide for children and elderly residents alike and left volunteers with a sense of shared happiness.

Officers, technical force, and enrollees of Camp Richard M. Kleberg CCC Camp enjoyed a turkey dinner Tuesday evening at 4 30. Lieut. C. Valle Jr commanded. The meal was to be held after Christmas due to many boys leaving for holidays. It was a splendid spread with everything imaginable to eat and all did full justice. Mrs W S Barcus and sister Miss Mauritie Mitchell, Mrs Jas Cage and editor were guests for the delightful dinner.

H. J. Caulfield, connected with Camp Nichols in Kenedy for about a year, will likely transfer to Camp Kléeberg next week as Junior Agricultural Engineer. He has four years in the service and comes highly recommended. Mr. and Mrs. Caulfield were here Wednesday preparing to move and settle in. Texas Farm Crops Decline This Year

Texas farmers harvested less crops and earned about 453 million dollars in income, 68 million less than 1937. The 1938 harvest and acreage totaled 2.46 million acres, 27 percent below last year, mainly due to slower cotton production which fell to 3.125 million bales from 5 million in 1937.
