AACOG 1978 Officers Elected

Wilson County Judge Greshe am Akin was elected vice chairman of the Alamo Area Council of Governments Execu tive Committee for 1978. San Antonio City Councilman Glen Hartman was chosen as chairman at the AACOG Semi annual meeting held December 14 at Oak Hills Motor Inn. The Executive Committee and Area Council represent AACOG's 90 member governments and meet twice yearly to review policy and elect officers. Akin has served on the committee for 10 years and as Wilson County Judge since 1977 after 14 years as a Commissioner. Hartman previously served as vice chairman in 1976 and succeeds Judge Julius R. Neunhoffer as chairman.

TLC Bulldogs players earn NAIA II All America honorable mention

Texas Lutheran College backs Jeff Stevens and Christian Lampe received honorable mention on the 1977 NAIA Division II All-America Team. Stevens led TLC with 634 rushing yards on 164 carries and 25 points. Lampe contributed 46 unassisted and 44 assisted tackles including 10 sacks and two fumbles recovered. Both players are from Floresville, with Lampe also linking to Terrell Hills.

Peanut Troop 463 Awards Ceremony Highlights

Girl Scout Troop 463 in the Gold Room of the Wilson County Public Library awarded Active Citizen and Toymaker badges for community service and crafting puff animals. Recipients included Karen Terri Stacy Jennifer Darlene Amy Cindy Amelia Kim Tonny. Kim and Terri earned Water Fun badges.

County Clerk Richard Bolf Faces Removal Suit

Wilson County Clerk Richard Bolf faces a lawsuit to remove him from office after a Texas Ranger inquiry linked to the office with a former deputy implicated in a $15,000 loss. County Attorney Archie Wilder claims 14 grounds, including missing audits, while Bolf calls it a political move and says it will not affect his bid for a fifth term.

Parent-Teacher Group To Meet January Third

Regular meeting of the Parent-Teacher Group will be held Tuesday evening January 3 at 7 30 p m in the Middle School cafeteria. Mr Westmoreland and staff will overview school status and a High School tour will follow. Teachers will be there to meet parents and show classrooms and campus. All interested parents invited.

Office schedules and political suit details

The office closes Monday January 2 and all copy is due by Friday December 30. Wilder says the suit has no political aim and mentions no one seeks the County Clerk post. He denies accusing Bolf of dishonesty. Funds were found missing in October before an audit of Wilson County offices. A hearing is planned for mid January.

Social Security Office Schedule in Floresville Courtroom

Representatives from the Social Security Administration will meet in Floresville at the Commissioners Courtroom in the Courthouse at 8:30 a.m. on January 5 and 19, February 2 and 16, March 2, 16 and 20.

Traeger seeks reelection to Texas State Senate

State Senator John A. Traeger of District 21 filed with the State Democratic Party for another term. He lists Eddie A. Klein as campaign treasurer and notes his extensive service including ten years in the House and six in the Senate, with committee roles and leadership positions. District 21 covers Atascosa and multiple neighboring counties.

Continental Texas files tariff with Public Utility Commission

Continental Telephone Company of Texas filed its tariff with the Public Utility Commission to implement rate changes ordered last January. The commission approved $1.4 million, a figure Continental disputes, leading to court action. If settled, customers may receive retroactive refunds. new rates take effect once approved by the commission.

Texas city sales tax rebate total tops 360 million

State Comptroller Bob Bullock announced that about 890 Texas cities will receive early Christmas rebate checks totaling 53.8 million for December, part of the local option one percent sales tax. The year’s rebates reach 361.6 million, up 58.9 million from 1976, with eight cities receiving over 1 million each including Houston Dallas San Antonio Fort Worth Austin El Paso Corpus Christi and Lubbock. Austin showed the largest percentage gain at 31 percent.

Connally to Address Hereford Conference in Fort Worth

Former Texas governor and U S Treasury Secretary John Connally will address the Beef Truth Conference luncheon on Jan 30 at the Fort Worth Convention Center Texas. He will discuss the role of beef producers in free enterprise and gaps between producers and consumers. Dr Earl Butz another former cabinet member will speak mid morning on beef industry stability and nation of beef eaters.

The City of Floresville will not run trash pickup on Monday January 2. Trash collection will occur on Tuesday January 3.
