Trial Date Set For Teen Accused Of Murdering Mom

Maggie Ward a 17 year old Poth resident faces murder charges in the Feb 26 death of her mother Janet Ward a Sacred Heart School Floresville teacher A January court date was set to determine competence to stand trial or proceed to a jury Ward has bail set at 150000 and appeared in court in an orange jumpsuit with her attorney signaling a possible postponement for further evaluation by Dr John Sparks and a defense psychiatrist.

FHA Adopts Families For Holidays

Floresville High School Future Homemakers of America helped two local families have a brighter Christmas. Debra Guzman led item collection with donations of clothing toys and food. Coxs Service Station and Super S Foods supported the effort with services and a food donation.

First National Bank Plans New Floresville Branch

The board of First National Bank announces construction of a 3000 square foot bank on Highway 181 North in Floresville across from the Plaza Center Shopping Mall. The facility is slated for completion around June 1, 1997 with Cody Elrod named manager for Wilson County. Elrod, a sixteen year banking veteran, has led Edwards Jones in Floresville for three years and recently moved from Pleasanton with his wife and twins.

National Park Service announces 1997 tour schedule for Rancho de las Cabras inside San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Tours start the first Saturday monthly at 10 am from Floresville River Park, then caravan to the ranch site for a one hour interpretive visit. Weather and road conditions can affect availability.

AT&T Warns PUC Decision May Delay Local Service Competition

AT&T expresses concern that the Texas PUC final order on interconnection terms could delay competition for local phone service with Southwestern Bell. The order grants a 21.6 percent discount off retail rates but leaves some interconnection issues unresolved. AT&T vice president Alan Wren commends the process yet accuses Southwestern Bell of trying to extend delays.
