Floresville’s Flores, a navigator, arrives home from five months of active duty on the African front. He travels from Miami to Houston by plane, granted an 80 day leave, then will report to Washington before resuming duty. The city greets him, hoping for an interview later.
Floresville couple, Mr and Mrs Joe Polasek, learn their son Pvt Frank Polasek Co G 426th Infantry APO 32 was seriously wounded in action in the South Pacific. Red Cross has not yet secured further details. parents await word from the War Department as Wilson County expresses sympathy.
A San Antonio Army post reports 350.00 contributed to support rooms for enlisted men. The fund aims to improve comfort for soldiers, with donations totaling 350 dollars recorded for morale and welfare.
C J Garland Superintendent notes interest in evening English classes for community members who need language help to pursue applications. Those wishing to learn should report names to the Superintendent of Schools on January 4. If demand exists, instruction will be arranged in the evenings.
On Tuesday December 8 1942 Mr and Mrs J M Tipton quietly marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a turkey dinner. Friends called to offer congratulations and gifts. They wed December 22 1892 in Shiloh near Floresville. They have lived in Floresville most of fifty years. They are warmly congratulated by many in Floresville and Wilson County.
Sam Fore Jr district chairman and E F Woolsey Jr county chairman led Floresville Texas in a school victory bond concert that showcased an outstanding sale of war bonds and stamps. The event set a competitive figure for schools larger than Floresville, with Frank Scofield stating the state director for war bond sales praised the effort.
Twenty three well known young men from Floresville and Wilson County, including married men, departed Tuesday morning for Fort Sam Houston reception center. They carried prayers and best wishes for the service.

The note references the renaming of Berwyn to Gene Autry Oklahoma and Hardy Murphy riding a saddle owned by Wiley Johnson. Vela has long produced and shipped saddles for Autry.
Floresville Methodist church will hold a Home Coming Service at 11 a m next Sunday honoring Wilson County soldiers overseas and at camps along with local college students and visitors. Rev J W Black will deliver the sermon and the choir will present music. a church roster naming all young men of the church and Methodist families will be presented.
Loire St Luke's School raised 2575 dollars in War Bonds during a Christmas play held last Sunday night. A large crowd attended and enjoyed the entertainment. Rev B N Galle reported the sale to County Chairman E F Woolsey Jr. stating strong community cooperation. Bond sale was led by Adolph Wright and Johnnie Jasik.

Floresville school band members, 49 in total, shared a festive Christmas banquet Monday night at the White House Cafe. Director Fritz Teltschik gave each musician a $1 War Savings Stamp envelope as a memory of the happy occasion. A play party followed at Al's Hall.
All boys who will turn 18 by December 31 1942 must register at the Selective Service Board office in Wilson county between now and a specified date. This nationwide registration targets the 18 year old age group and young men should attend immediately.
Floresville Baptists will honor Dr. Chas Culpepper, returned China missionary, with a special service next Sunday night at 7 30. Culpepper was among the last to leave China after the war declaration and has years of orient service.

Path Boy Scout Troop held a regular court of honor Monday night at the school auditorium. E J KOSAREK presided and William Green, Scout Executive of Alamo Area Council, gave a patriotic talk. Elmo Meyer, A I College student and top Wilson District Scout, was presented to the group.
