4H Calf Grooming Demonstration Held Last Saturday

The 4H calf grooming event occurred last Saturday December 18 with Youth Day planned for February 19 at San Antonio Livestock Show. Contest rules allow FFA and County clubs to compete in San Antonio Fort Worth and Houston with teams of three active competitors plus an alternate.

Man Dies After Shootings Near City Limits

Fernando Herrera dies after deputy sheriff arc arrest led to a gunfire exchange in a town area near Floresville. Herrera, unwed and raised locally, was transported to Floresville Hospital where he died. Deputy Acosta faced no charges by press time. State Ranger Zeno Smith investigated, with hearings held before Justice J. G. Youngblood. Funeral was held in Poth on Tuesday.

Wilson County reports two new wildcats Tuesday as drilling ventures proceed. A 4,000-foot well drilled by H. R. Smith of Alice is set at No. 1 John R. Shook, six miles southeast of Elmendorf, with complex lease coordinates and elevation noted. G. Mitchamere and Julius Blam of Houston plan a second attempt east of Floresville at No. 1 L. F. Floresville Preps for 2000 Santa Clauses at Community Tree

Lions Club Christmas Cheer Party Delights Floresville

The Floresville Lions Club hosted its annual Christmas Cheer Party at Wrights Cafe with a turkey supper provided by Mesa Wright and assistants. Attendees included special guests and a pageant by Miss Rancy Sue Raska. A two sided gift word game entertained, prizes awarded, and gifts were later delivered to the Welfare Office for distribution.

A San Antonio event drew about twenty five people from across the county to Reagan Mills and D. Ray Alford’s demonstration on beef cattle washing grooming and showing. The program showcased a Hereford heifer, Shady Lady, with county youths and parents attending to learn proper showing technique ahead of a stock show in Stockdale scheduled for March 2nd and 5th.
