Floresville to Hold Christmas Caroling for Shut-Ins

The annual Floresville Christmas caroling event will unite voices from city churches on Christmas Eve night. Mesdames Spruce Oxford Mayes and others organize, with schoolchildren planned to gather at the courthouse to sing, visit shut-ins, and spread the season’s message.

Evening A Rare Musical Treat The Christmas King

Floresville Methodist Church hosted The Christmas King a cantata with over 50 voices from city churches last Sunday at 7 15 pm. Despite poor weather a large crowd filled the main auditorium and praised the program praised as Floresville’s finest yet. Director Mrs John W Spruce and accompanist Mrs E F Woolsey led solos duets quartets chorus and choir in a 40 minute performance.

County Agent E. D. Beck received a letter from Planter Lumber Co of Omaha Nebraska seeking soil climate and related information for a proposed large scale citrus fruit and paper shell pecan planting on their extensive holdings near Stockdale.

Plans Completed For National Egg Laying Contest At San Antonio

National Egg Laying Contest planned at San Antonio Texas opens November 1 1927 with buildings to rise by February 1. Board of Governors backs November 1 start date despite Oct 1 suggestion. Lone Star Poultry Association and chambers plan a larger show. Officials circulate rules and invite entries from Wilson County and others.

J A Griffith Elected C of C Director At Marfa

J A Griffith and 11 others were elected as chamber of commerce directors from 24 nominees for the coming year in Marfa Texas. On December 17 J C Fuller was chosen president and R E Petross vice president. Katherine Duckworth was re appointed secretary. The retiring president W W Bogel and directors were praised for their service. Installation will be January 5 after the 1927 program outline.

Buckner Orphans Home to Receive $113,000 Christmas Gift

Dallas dispatch reports B Y P U groups across Texas plan to give Buckner Orphans Home $113,000 in gifts and cash as a Christmas present. State secretary T C Gardner said every member is asked to contribute. Gus Ultmann and family spent Tuesday in Dallas.

Wilson County Shines at Pearsall Citrus Show

Wilson County stood out at the Pearsall Parcel Post Citrus Show held in Pearsall on the 16th. Seedling Grapefruit entries by Mrs. August Franke of Stockdale won second prize among 175 entries with strong showings from Lower Rio Grande Valley and as far as Orange. Pearsall won 38 prizes, eight for the white variety, and County Agent N W Jones praised the results and announced the event will be annual.

Floresville Cemetery Association Meeting Record 1926

The Floresville Cemetery Association met with Mrs. H. J. Price on December 10 1926. President Mrs. Lee Matlock called the meeting to order. Minutes were read and approved. Roll call listed Mesdames Lee Matlock O D Rhode Leo Johns H J Price W O Murray Sr Ron Sutherland R B Myers F B Horace Ridout and W M Chap. Mrs Tom Bynum paid four dollars for and Mr Slaughter was granted one week holiday. Adjournment followed with a note that the place will be announced later.

Special Christmas Program at First Lutheran Floresville

A Christmas program and service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Floresville next Sunday at 6 p m Rev Nic Frueh of La Vernia will preach a sermon for the occasion. Everyone is invited. Henry Teltschik was in San Antonio Monday on business.

Floresville School Sees Holiday Closure Thursday

Floresville public school closed Thursday afternoon for holidays as students and staff prepare for the season. the notice notes holiday recess and school operations paused until after the break.
