Goodwill Industries of San Antonio announces the end of its rural services job program in Wilson County and surrounding counties. The program, funded by the Job Training Partnership Act, provided career assessment, job search, GED training, ESL, tuition assistance, on the job training, and literacy courses across 11 counties including Guadalupe, Wilson, Karnes, Kerr, and Medina.
DPS logs from Wilson County detail three 1995 accidents near La Vernia and Floresville. Richard Jimenez drove his 1992 Mitsubishi off U.S. 87 after a hit and run, striking trees at 10 p.m. on November 30. James Guidry III left FM 775 when his 1985 Toyota slid into a fence, 2.4 miles south of La Vernia at 5 a.m. on December 5. Selestino Talamantez III struck a deer on U.S. 181 north of Floresville at 12:50 a.m. on December 13.
Wilson County marks the retirement of County Attorney Jerry P. Heltzel after a tenure starting January 1 1989. The judge and officials honored him at the district courtroom Christmas party on December 15 1995. Heltzel, a World War II veteran and Texas Christian and St Mary's University alumnus, will retire January 31 1996 while remaining a Wilson County resident.
Wilson County Hay Show on November 15 at the Showbarn drew twenty entries amid low production this year. Grand Champion Emmitt Noll of Falls City won with coastal bermuda hay at 16.3 percent crude protein and received two and a half gallons of Roundup from Lyssy and Eckel. Reserve Champion Barbara Bates of Floresville earned a gallon of Remedy donated by Pruski Seed and Fertilizer, with other donors including Farmer's Gin, Ace Hardware of Poth, and Pruski Service.
On Saturday December 24 1995 Mr and Mrs Tristan and P and T Cafeteria staff in Floresville will host a free Christmas dinner from 3 to 7 pm for Senior Citizens Needy Homeless and Handicapped.
