A felon was retired in Cuero this morning and the death of Sheriff Jesse B. Farris in a Michigan hospital was announced. Farris had gone to Michigan three months ago to bring back J. W. Smithers, charged with beating Yoakum business men in organizing a proposed new state bank.

Wilson County Red Cross Chapter received a $50 donation from Floresville Camp No. 131 Woodmen of the World. A big shipment to St Louis included 50 knitted sweaters 55 mufflers 60 socks and 50 wristlets exceeding the chapter's allotment. Local fraternal orders praised for support during the crisis.
Floresville merchants plan an all day New Year holiday in addition to Christmas after a circulating petition urging an annual observance. Nearly every firm in town signed the request, signaling broad support for extending the holiday.
The Cemetery Association met in the beauti ful home of Mrs W C Bruff on December 14 1917 with Mrs John McDaniel Sr presiding. Members and visitors attended as details of dues collections blocks readiness for numbers and upcoming January February collections noted. Floresville Red Cross workers close a strenuous week with another talk at the Methodist church to boost the Wilson County Christmas drive. Hon. Claude Pollard, a prominent attorney, travels from Houston HQ to address the audience. Special music promised. all urged to attend.
The first quarterly Methodist Conference of the year met at the church last Sunday evening with Presiding Elder J F Sessions in charge. Despite national conditions the gathering showed a splendid representation. Sessions preached a strong sermon praising Red Cross and Y M C A work. Pastor W N Carl delivered a Red Cross appeal sermon at the morning hour and spoke on other pressing subjects. Merchant Lewis and Co. promotes men’s suits with a suggested gift idea.
