Operation Christmas Greeting Nears Donation Deadline

Judy Earl urges Floresville readers to donate to the Wilson County Volunteer Ambulance Association via the Operation Christmas Greeting fund by tomorrow Thursday the 18th. The project, begun in 1978, replaces traditional cards with a community gift funded by contributions, with donors' names listed in the Christmas edition of the paper.

Time nearly up for donations to the Operation Christmas Greeting drive at 1st City National Bank Floresville before 3 p.m. tomorrow. The notice lists donor names and family listings with a minimum $5 donation per listing to support the effort.

Elaine Kolodziej surveys Christmas customs across cultures. Polish Americans greet with Wesolych Swiat Boze Narodzenie while Germans sing Weihnachten and Latin Feasts of Nativity. Slavic nations honor St Nicholas before Christmas Eve gifts, and many families build a nativity scene the creche. The Hons family preserve carols such as Away in a Manger O Tannenbaum and Stille Nacht. A German laurel wreath with four candles symbolizes Advent as families pray before meals.

4-H Showmanship Winners Announced in Wilson County

Wilson County Live stock Club held a December 13 show at the Wilson County Showbarn featuring sheep and swine. Morning sheep results list Laur ie Leister first and Roxie Bayer second with Kelly Carter and Billy Mutz fourth. Afternoon swine results name Ryan Rippert as first and Heath Orth as third, with Karen Orth fourth. Judge was Walton Heimann of Fredericksburg. Donations from Floresville merchants supported prizes. A beef show is planned for December 20 at 1 p.m.

Masonic Past Masters Honored in Floresville Lodge Ceremony

Floresville Lodge No. 515 A F and A M honored living Past Masters in a December ceremony at the Masonic Temple. Harold Smith of Aransas Pass presented gavels inscribed with each Worshipful Master’s name and tenure, with Clyde Cannon reading the records and Andrew Garza presenting gavels. More than 40 Masons and guests attended, with refreshments provided by the Floresville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

Wilson County SWCD Honors With Merit Certificates

At the December 1980 monthly meeting Wilson County Soil and Water Conservation District awarded each board member Certificates of Merit presented by H A Schlamens Goodyear District Manager. Goodyear has supported conservation work for 33 years and sponsors the Goodyear Conservation Awards with NACD. Earlier this year the district received a plaque for second place in Region 3.

Conrad Pruske Receives Certificate of Merit

Conrad Pruske is awarded a certificate of merit for outstanding and special management of resources and farming practices in Wilson County. The award was presented by H.A. Schiamens District Manager from the company in San Antonio as part of the Goodyear Conservation Award Program recognizing standout cooperators and board members from top districts.
