Returns from the cot peanut referendum held last Tuesday indicate large majorities in the county favor marketing quotas for both cotton and pea. Richardson, chairman of the county Agricultural and Conservation group, notes the results reflect farmer support.
Waco residents gathered support after a tornado last Saturday raising about $3,000 from 114 contributors for Vicksburg relief. The scene highlighted communal aid and fundraising efforts across the town.
Cotton and peanut growers favor production and price controls by large majorities in referendums. The reads indicate sizable support across the industry, with one sided margins and strong backing for government measures to stabilize markets.
Texas farmers voted heavily for production and marketing controls on upland cotton and peanuts. The State PMA report shows 90.55 percent in 234 counties for cotton limits and high support prices, with 61,159 for and 6,386 against. Peanuts carried 93.9 percent approval in 127 counties, 6,615 to 427. About 300,000 cotton farmers and 20,000 peanut growers were eligible to vote with polling sites in producing counties.

Three well known Wilson County automobile agencies display the latest model 1954 cars in their Floresville showrooms Friday and Saturday December 18 and 19. Sheehy Chevrolet in Floresville, Stavinoha Chevrolet at Poth, and Smith Pontiac & Appliance in Floresville invite the public to view the new models and register for attendance prizes, with prizes awarded Saturday at 5 p.m. at the showroom.
The Carrizo in the F. B. Cochran junior run Jarzombek No 1 Constant, Wilson County wildcat, began coring Wednesday morning at about 1 925 feet. The test, permitted to 5 700 feet, is in the George Davis Survey 12 A 92, southwest of the Denhawken Field where Wilcox oil production is reported around 4 275 feet.
The League of Church Women of Floresville sets up a detailed plaster Nativity Scene on the courthouse lawn as a yearly Yule season display. Rev John Gerbermann of Sacred Heart Parish lends the scene for as long as the league maintains it, with glow lighting to be viewed at night. The display features the Three Kings, shepherds, and stable animals, with volunteers repainting the figures.
Foams Oil Company of Texas, Floresville, will drill a 1400 foot wildcat at No 1 Bert W Smith five miles northeast of Floresville in Wilson County The site lies near the East Floresville Field opened in 1948 which has 22 oilers producing near 2700 feet The wildcat uses Block 39 Simon and Juan Arocha Survey 330 feet from the southwest line and 500 feet from the northwest line Also noted was a nearby James Brady Watson wildcat abandoned at 5429 feet after a drillstem test showed oil and gas cut mud and 4000 feet of sulphur water The Constant Jarzombek well eight miles northeast of Falls City was drilling at 1463 feet in the Queen City with coring planned around 1925 feet and permitted to 5700 feet in the Denhawken Field
John T Harris owns 285 acres in Wilson County where 230 black Angus cows graze on a 130 acre field irrigated from an artesian well. Calves are entered for San Antonio show, with 4-Hers Jack Orts and Robert Matthews exhibiting a Short horn bull and a Hereford bull and heifer respectively. Harris uses oats, blue panic, buffel grass, and Sudan for year round forage to keep the herd well nourished and ready for spring and summer grazing.
Reports from Wilson Atascosa and Bexar counties detail casing at 3,887 feet on Sutton Drilling No 1 wildcat near Crown, J C McCabe Wise Watson drilling west of Floresville, a Stanolind test in Higgins Field with 150 psi bottomhole pressure, and Plymouth Oil Company tests in Cooksey Field Bexar with daily oil production around 46 to 50 barrels from shallow perforations.
Floresville Consolidated Independent School District will dismiss for the Christmas holidays next Wednesday. The move covers all Floresville area schools as students anticipate a holiday break.
Santa Claus radiograms Floresville as he arrives December 24 at 6:00 PM on a red fire truck to lead the Community Christmas Tree festivities on courthouse square. Floresville Volunteer Fire Department hosts 2500 plus attendees with a brief school band concert before the arrival and gift fruit bags for every child. The League of Church Women presents a lit yard scene as choirs from city churches sing carols, making a holy family occasion.
Falls City business group announces two day Christmas week observance with stores closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Path Club will host Community Christmas Party on the town plaza Christmas Eve at 4 pm with Santa arriving by fire truck and fruit candy bags for children. Jimmie Luigi and the Path School Band will greet attendees and provide a short holiday program. Everyone urged to attend and bring family. Fireworks safety and careful driving advised to prevent tragedies during holidays.
The radiogram announces Santa Claus coming to Falls City on Thursday December 24 around 11 a.m. He will have goodies for all the children. He urges residents to tell friends and neighbors and bring the whole family.
