A group of Wilson County citizens organized a four and a half day road improvement project from the Poth railroad crossing to Fritz Westmeier place and from Helena road crossing to Malcher place. They used county equipment at no cost, fed workers with a dinner, and urged expansion to other sections. Also reported is the death of pioneer citizen John McDaniel Sr. at about 2 O clock this morning after years of ill health. He leaves a widow and four sons. A funeral will be held at the family residence tomorrow.
An exhibit showcases a Bull Tractor in the rear of R L Eschenburg's store. San Antonio hardware enthusiast Jack W Neal serves as South Texas agent. The tractor, tested at E L Whiteett's farm, demonstrated pulling two inch disc or surrey plows and was praised by Louis McMains. Farmers are invited to view the exhibit.
Mrs W B Toone of this city has been named Chairman of a committee to sell Red Cross Christmas Seals in Floresville. Receipts from the sale depend on public support and a hearty response is urged. One cent buys a seal and placing one on each Christmas card would aid the cause.
Ford moves and welcomes clients as new building hosts in a brief local notice. The Charge cle Journal notes the relocation and extends best wishes for the business.
Despite bad weather the event has drawn shoppers and strong sales. The clearance sale was reimagined as a Holiday Bargain Carnival with attractive prices across all lines, boosting business for the retailer.
Special to the News reports Henry Wilson a Black man convicted of criminal assault on a young woman was executed by hanging in Port Lavaca Texas on December 14 in the presence of peace officers from nearby towns. The execution proceeded without incident.
A freight train on the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad ran over and killed a herd of ten registered Jersey cows owned by a Lu Ling man who had just moved to the area to start a dairy. The incident occurred Thursday night in Flatonia on December 15.
Floresville endures a coldest spell of year with slow drizzle and soaked ground. Farmers seek a several week dry spell. Also a business notice urges January 1 collections, advising contact to obtain statements, bill heads and envelopes.
Paris reports the cost of the war to France for the first six months at 1,185,888,573 dollars, about 200 million monthly. The figure includes 101,400,000 for soldiers' families, 4,000,000 for unemployed, 10,200,000 for those displaced by invasion, and other war-related items. The parliament’s appropriation committee considered a first six months budget totaling 1,705,052,881 dollars.

Dr Jesse L Mitchell, a San Antonio physician, was in Mathis as a professional visitor this week.
Local report notes Melon postoffice robbed and C C Hurley’s store incident at Me diamid leading to detention and transfer to jail. Suspicion centers on Hurley’s movements near a Mexican camp as authorities hold him for questioning.
