Christmas Banquet Honors Chapter 271 Leaders
Floresville Chapter No 271 C E held its annual Christmas banquet at the Methodist church with a decorated table and a festive menu. About 60 guests attended including out of town members from San Antonio Stockdale and featured talks by Ruth Spruce Eunice Connell and Dr E R Shedden. The Deputy Grand Matron received silver dollars and war stamps were given to Mrs Mattie Mitchell.

Mrs Mary Breeden Holliday died December 11 1948 after months illness at her mother's Floresville home. Funeral at Murray Funeral Home conducted by Rev J W Black with choir songs. A Floresville house owned by W. W. Herrington of Corpus Christi burned early Saturday night. Fire destroyed the home and most contents of Hugh Herring and family who were away at the time. Firemen battled the blaze as it had already made headway when the alarm was sounded. some household goods were saved.

Governor Urges Collection of State Delinquent Taxes
In San Antonio on December 13, Governor Coke Stevenson backed a campaign to collect delinquent state ad valorem taxes to reduce the general fund deficit. Ray Leeman of the South Texas Chamber of Commerce noted about 10 percent of Texans are delinquent, with $16,000,000 potentially collectible for the general fund, school fund, and Confederate pension fund. Delinquencies were reported at $111,806,463 through the 1941-1942 fiscal year.

Prisoner ofWar Writes Home From Burma Camp
Floresville and Wilson County friends learn that Pvt. Houston T. Wright, prisoner in a Japanese camp near Moulmein Burma, sent a postcard to his mother in Corpus Christi. He describes 20 000 prisoners from several nations, huts, improved food and medicine, daily wages for labor, canteens, concerts, and occasional trips to a cinema.

Auto Crash on Highway Near Courthouse Intersection
A near serious auto accident occurred Wednesday night on the San Antonio Corpus Christi highway one block south of the courthouse at Pleasanton Corpus intersection. Mrs Bert Reed and baby were in one car and Francis McDougal drove the other. Cars collided. Reed baby and McDougal youth suffered bruises but no serious injuries. Both cars badly damaged.
