Pritchett Funeral Held After Houston Death

Mrs. J. P. Pritchett died Saturday and was buried in Floresville after services at the Methodist church conducted by E. W. Dechert. She is survived by a wide circle of relatives and other family members gathered for the funeral.

Home Talent Presents Two High School One-Act Plays

Floresville High School auditorium hosts two home talent one-acts tonight. Faculty members star in Not Only The Guppy and students perform In Defense Of Husbands. Proceeds aid athletic obligations with 25 and 10 cent admissions.

Scout Executive To Attend Honor Court At Dewees Monday

W. A. Nicholson, Field Scout Executive of the Alamo Area Council, will visit the Wilson District on December 18 and 19. On Monday the 19th, the Boy Scout Court of Honor will be held at Dewees for the entire district at 8:00 p.m. Immediately after, the district committee meeting will convene with committees presenting yearly reports and an election of officers for the 1939 term.

Gun Shot Wound Fatal To Poth Farmer

Willie O. Nitschmann aged 46 died from a personal safety related gun shot wound in Poth Texas. Inquest verdict by Justice of the Peace Alex Klaus finds the fatal wound occurred Thursday afternoon. Survivors include his widow son Helmuth and daughter Wilma of San Antonio, plus two brothers and two sisters.

Floresville Christmas Decoration Contest Prizes Announced

Floresville Musical Club will sponsor a Christmas Decoration Contest with prizes of 2.60 dollars for the best decorated home and 2.50 dollars for the best decorated yard. Judges will visit sites before Christmas and aim for wide participation. Information available from Mrs. J. C. Houston, Club President.

Soil Conservation Assn Annual Meeting Set For Thursday

John Bednarz, president of the Wilson County Soil Conservation Association, announced the annual meeting at 2:00 p.m. Thursday December 22 at the camp host CCC Camp Floresville. Officers for the coming year will be elected. W. H. DuPuy, area conservationist of San Antonio, will discuss proposed work.

Christmas Cheer Fund Seeks Local Donations This Season

The Chronicle-Journal urges community members to donate cash, fruit, candy, clothing or toys to the Christmas Cheer Fund. OCC Camp and WPA Sewing Room coordinate toy drives for needy children with support from the Relief Office. Contributions today bring joy to less fortunate families and individuals in the area.

Floresville and Poth business houses announce closure on Monday December 26 and Monday January 2 in observance of Christmas and New Year holidays. Banks post offices and usual closings will follow annual custom. Merchants urge residents and rural communities to note the two dates.

Floresville public school will close Thursday afternoon December 23 for Christmas holidays and reopen Tuesday morning January 8. The break totals nine holidays and two Sundays.

District Court Adjourned Saturday Ending Fé Term

In Wilson County District Court Judge S. B. Carr exchanged benches with Judge Harry L. Howard in the trial of J. A Bain versus Mrs. M M Smith to remove cloud from title. The term was continued. Hilaria Montoya Gonzales vs Jose A Gonzales granted a divorce and child custody. Walter Harris and Eddie Allen received five years each for burglary after a gun battle with Sheriff Harper Morris and City Marshall D J Acosta in Poth. Poth School Hosts First Annual 4-H Club Meeting

J M Cale 62, longtime Floresville area citizen, died December 2 1938 at his Coughran home Atascosa County Texas after a stroke. Funeral Saturday with Rev A M Foster conducting. Survived by his wife Lizzie Foster and one son. Family lived at McCoy earlier, later moving within Atascosa County.

County tournament set for Floresville High School starting at 10 a m Saturday with several teams entered. Public invited with no admission or entrance fee. Pep Squad to sell sandwiches and drinks at noon.

Farmers League Meet at Poth Draws Crowds

A large crowd of farmers and families attended the Wilson County Farmers League meeting at the Poth school building last Sunday afternoon. Several speakers discussed farm problems led by principal speaker H. H. Schuenemann of Kenedy. John Beltzhoever of Floresville presided over the meeting.

Annual Wilson County 4 H Club Meeting Honors Work

More than 250 attended the Path High School auditorium for the Wilson County 4 H Club annual joint meeting. County Agent F C Elliott and Miss Fannie Sue Brasuel praised constructive work, with many awards and wide interest. Students from Denhawken Ehlers Center Point Sunnyside Lodi Fairview Poth Camp Ranch and Three Oaks performed in songs skits and dances.

Annual Christmas Good Will Edition Announced Next Friday

COLLEGE STATION Texas Dec 13 The Chronicle Journal announces its annual Christmas Good Will Edition to publish next Friday December 23. Practically every business in Floresville and Poth has bought advertising space to show appreciation for patronage support. The issue plans 2000 copies distributed to boxholders and readers across Floresville, Poth, and the county with a Christmas frontpiece and features reflecting the town’s spirit.

Christmas Cheer At WPA Sewing Room Floresville

The editor visited the Floresville WPA Sewing Room this week and praised the work that produced gift garments. Mrs. Porter Holcombe and Mrs. J. S. McKenzie will cooperate in distributing gifts, noting the careful government oversight of costs and hours. Garments were made in county towns Stockdale and Sutherland Springs, reflecting broad relief efforts.
