Poth Pirates Football Banquet Set For December 17

The Poth High School gym will host the annual football banquet Monday December 17 at 7 30 p m. Sponsored by the Poth Athletic Association and the Homemaking Department, the event includes a meal served by members wives. Tickets cost 150 each from Gilbert Reinhard or the First National Bank of Poth. Rep John Traeger of Seguin will speak, followed by a football film. A large crowd is expected.

The Floresville School choral groups present their annual Christmas concert on Thursday night December 20 at 8 o clock at First Baptist Church. Participating are Junior High Choir Little Boys Choir Girls Sextet High School Choir with soloists Jeanie Perry Lee Millikin Frank Estrada Linda Johns Brenda Hunter. Narrator is Berdines Lackness. All choirs directed by Wayne Dudney. Free admission.

Farmers Back quotas in county referendums vote

Wilson County farmers voted overwhelmingly in favor of marketing quota allotments and price support in the Nation Cotton and Peanut referendum. Results showed 107 to 16 for Cotton quota and allotment and 254 to 24 for Peanut quota and allotment.

Dr Jerry W Oxford dies at 84 in El Paso Floresville healer for 50 years

Dr Jerry William Oxford 84 longtime Floresville physician died Monday at his son's home in El Paso after months of ill health He practiced medicine in Wilson County for over five decades and was beloved by the community He was born December 27 1877 in Louisiana and later moved to Texas He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Galveston in 1906 and held posts at St Marys Austin State and San Antonio State Hospitals before moving to Floresville around 1910 He married Lorena McDaniel in 1912 and had two sons He received a bronze plaque during Wilson County's 1925 centennial for his three years of medical service and remained active in the Floresville Methodist Church until his death.

Floresville honors Governor-Elect John B Connally with a special holiday January 15 1962 open house at the Capitol reception and a parade plan. Gold Watch Given to Retiring Commissioner Montgomery

During Wilson County Commissioners Court on December 10 1962 a ceremony presented retiring County Commissioner E F Montgomery of Stockdale with a gold Hamilton watch. John Wheeler led the presentation with Wm Fordtran and Em i Chas Precinct No 4 attending. Montgomery served Precinct 4 from 1943 to 1963 and was honored for his 20 years of service and community contributions.

Postmaster Russell Smith asks the Chronicle-Journal to note the Floresville Post Office will be open all day on Saturday December 15 and Saturday December 22 to accommodate patrons mailing Christmas packages.

Signing Of Brucellosis Petitions Extended For 1963

Wilson County bands plan to attend Governor John Connally's inauguration in Austin on January 15. Floresville businesses will close to honor the Wilson County native son. Petitions for brucellosis control began six weeks ago with Farm Bureau leadership driving the effort. about 200 signatures were gathered, and organizers seek continued signups through January 1, 1963 for a final tally. Boxer County has completed petitions and will be ready for testing.
