Donaho Holstein Herd Tops Texas Classifications

S R Donaho Floresville Texas leads the state in the Holstein classification program with 127 animals inspected. Six were excellent, 33 very good, 58 good plus, and 80 good with no negatives. Tong established Neale Farms of Waco second with 125 head.

Floresville Prohibits Fireworks in Business District

Floresville bans any fireworks in the four main downtown blocks citing a State Fire Insurance Commission request. The drought raises fire risk, and residents are urged to cooperate to protect property. Leroy Thadlek Hurt In Thanksgiving Day Fire

Two year old Leroy Thadlek, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Thadlek Jr, was burned when a chair toppled toward a kitchen stove on Thanksgiving Day. A pot of hot water spilled over his head and neck, sending him to the hospital where he remained until the following Sunday. He is now recovering with burns healing nicely.

Mrs. O J Bomba Dies At Poth Heart Attack

Lena Warie Meg Bomba age 61 years 3 months 22 days wife of local druggist and businessman of Poth died suddenly at home Sunday afternoon December 9 1956 from a heart attack. She had endured an operation earlier in the year and was active in Floresville Methodist Church. Rites held Tuesday 10 a m at the Bomba residence with Rev Philip M Riley officiating. Choir members from Floresville sang and memorials were given to the Methodist Home in Waco. Large crowd attended both service and burial with active pallbearers listed and funeral attendance noted.

Christmas Party Of W S C S Honors Ladies Of Church

The Women's Society of Christian Service held its annual Christmas program and party at the Floresville Methodist church on Monday December 10 at 4 pm with all women of the church as guests. Mrs Horace Lowman presided over a brief business meeting before the program. A moment of silent prayer observed for Hungarian refugees in observance of Human Rights Day. Mrs R A Wiseman Jr led the program featuring Faith At Christmas with cast including Miss Okie Tipton Mrs Hugh Herring Mrs Robert Spruce Mrs Co W Millikin Jr Mrs Allen Drodz Mrs L T Arnold Miss Judy Sammons Darlene Schmals tein Mrs Harry Woolsey Mrs George Winyard and baby Susan and Mrs E B Woolsey organist. A love offering was given to El Mesias church. Social hour followed in the recreation room decorated with Christmas motif. Mrs S J Trewin presided over the tea table laid with green organdy cloth and a large green candle. Coffee tea finger sandwiches and Christmas cookies were served. About fifty ladies attended.

Lulac Councils Plan Christmas TB Patients Program

Lulac Councils in District 15 stage a Christmas program on Thursday December 20 at 7 pm for the TB patients at the San Antonio State Hospital on Military Road. The eight councils will present a one hour program with Christmas trees and gifts. New Braunfels will provide a 30 minute segment and San Antonio Council No 2 the remaining half hour. The hospital now houses 876 patients, including 400 men 400 women 40 children and 36 school age youths. Suggested gifts include socks and house shoes.

Floresville Livestock Commission Company reports a Tuesday sale with 824 head traded including 189 cattle and 185 hogs. Cattle prices ranged from 7.50 to 37.50 for various calibers while hogs topped at 16.60 per hundredweight, with many classes active and demand exceeding supply per Manager W. J. Noll.

Floresville Band Wins First Division in District Contest

Christmas Program Sutherland Springs Community Building

Three local churches Baptist Methodist and River Oaks Baptist join for a community Christmas program at the Sutherland Springs hall on Saturday December 22 at 7 p.m. Elizabeth Collins will provide organ music as children perform The Christmas Story and sing in a chorus. Poth Business Men's Club sponsors three Christmas week events in Poth. Free cash prizes of 15 dollars per hour will be awarded on December 15 and 22 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the town square. sign in at the fire house at 1 p.m. Both Saturdays feature free tickets with no purchase needed. On December 24 at 5:30 p.m. a Christmas party with Santa, the school band, and gifts for children will be held on the town square.

The Floresville High School home making department hosted its annual Christmas party on December fifth. Mrs. Horace Lowman welcomed guests and led singing of O Come All Ye Faithful. A tableau and song titled Coming of the King featured Mrs. Alfred Raska as narrator with a group including Mrs. C W Millikin Jr Mrs. J C Houston life press table decorated in red and silver. Refreshments of chicken salad cookies and spiced tea were served by Mrs. Merrill Connally and Mrs. Blanche Kline.
