Downtown Merchants Association and Plaza Shopping Association arrange Santa's tours with a herd of South Texas deer pulling the sleigh on December 15 and December 21 in Floresville. Ten Santas will be on hand for the weekend events.
Judy Earl reports the annual Operation Christmas Greeting fund deadline arrives Friday the 14th. Donations support the Wilson County Volunteer Ambulance Association, with last year’s total from Poth and Floresville at 4909.74 dollars. Sponsored by Xi Upsilon Pi, a Beta Sigma Phi chapter, funds can be given at First National Bank Path, First City National Bank Floresville, or San Antonio Savings Floresville.

A jury in Atascosa County found Pedro Sosa guilty of capital murder in the November 27 1984 trial linked to the robbery and killing of Wilson County Deputy Sheriff Ollie F. Childress. The same jury sentenced Sosa to death by injection. an automatic appeal will proceed. Leroy Sosa, 18, testified as a state witness after pleading guilty to murder kidnapping and robbery for a possible life sentence. District Attorney Alger Kendall led the case. defense was Manuel Montez.
Grannies in Floresville expands from fried chicken and burgers to Chinese items starting Wednesday with egg rolls and spring rolls. Manager Leonard George says the family fast food concept aims for broad appeal as the menu grows with sweet and sour pork and chicken, shrimp, pork fried rice and pepper steak planned. work on a walk-in cooler will aid expansion while biscuits may replace rolls with chicken in the future. Grannies jalapenos and chicken gizzards remain popular, and advance notice is requested for stuffed jalapenos orders.

The Floresville Chronicle Journal will publish its annual Christmas Edition in one week with subscribers receiving it on Thursday December 20. Availability for pickup is Wednesday December 19 at the office or other locations. Staff are finalizing the edition and contacting subscribers.
Four Pirettes earned District 31-AAA All-District Volleyball honors with Mary Hosek and Janice Dziuk among unanimous selections. Senior Nancy Lowak and Laurette Arnold also made the team. The Pirettes varsity roster includes Laurette Arnold Mary Hosek Nancy Lowak and several juniors and sophomores. A December 20 1984 event in the Wilson Library Gold Room referenced Christmas festivities and a program about the holiday season.
