Floresville Fans And Boosters Honor Tiger Football Team

The Floresville banquet celebrating the Tiger football team band and pep squad drew about 165 guests at Sacred Heart Church recreation room. Zane Lawhon led as master of ceremonies and Harold Scherwitz praised Floresville’s athletic program, coaching staff, and district 28 AA record while urging fair play and lifelong sportsmanship.

Floresville FFA Junior Team Wins Area Contest at Huntsville

Floresville FFA Junior Chapter conducted team took first place at the Area Contest held in Huntsville after winning the Alamo District Contest in San Marcos on November 1. State VP Charles Trecka presented the first place plaque to the team. Allan Drozd said the team will travel to Huntsville the next day.

Cotton Referendum Set for December 15 in Wilson County

The Secretary of Agriculture has set a December 15, 1958 cotton referendum for Wilson County farmers with 1958 acreage interests. Eligible voters include landlords tenants and sharecroppers associated with 1958 allotments. spouses both permitted. Polling locations cover Three Oaks Hall Path Fire Station La Vernia Lavernia Feed and Grain Store Denhawken School Pruski Station Kosciusko ASC Floresville office.

City considers Standish Street relocation in Floresville

At a December 4 Floresville City Council session, a delegation including County Judge Merrill Connally and Hudell Wright presented three petitions signed by about 160 residents of Precinct 1 requesting relocation and improvement of Farm Road 536 from Route 181 to the existing 536 road, with the matter referred to a December 23 special session after county commissioners also weighed options.

Fiastern Star Banquet To Be December 15

The O. E. S. annual Christmas banquet will be held December 15 in the First Baptist Church social rooms. Tickets are available from Mrs. Mary Creech, secretary, and reservations should be made by 6:00 p.m. Friday December 12.

Floresville C of C Tickets Promote Christmas Giveaway

The Floresville Chamber of Commerce sponsors ticketed purchases from member firms starting December 15. On December 20 and December 24 at 5:00 PM five $5 prizes and one $25 grand prize are awarded. Tickets come with 50 cent purchases, one per customer per day. Trades Day December 22 offers special prices. Santa attends the community Christmas Party at the courthouse at 5:30 PM Christmas Eve.

Hoelschers Plan Flight to New York and Rome for Ordination

Mr and Mrs A T Hoelscher of Floresville and their son Donald travel by plane to New York on December 14 then onward to Rome for the ordination of Donald and about 60 other candidates. Rev James Hoelscher, a Floresville High School graduate, will be ordained at Immaculate Conception Chapel North American College Rome on December 20 1958.

We Need Copy Early Next 2 Weeks

Chronicle Journal urges advertisers correspondents ministers and others to submit copy by Monday each week due to Christmas rush. Early press schedules needed both weeks to allow staff holiday time. Seek notices of going-aways visits parties family dinners reunions weddings and other holiday news but must be filed early.

Tamale Sale at El Mesias Methodist Church

A tamale sale is planned for December 13, 1958 at noon at El Mesias Methodist Church. Tamales cost 65 cents a dozen and are described as very delicious. All M. Y. F. members hope for a successful event. Reporter Lupe Martinez.

Ground Breaking for Path St. John's Lutheran Church Ed Building

Ground breaking ceremonies for a new 3552 square foot Educational Building at St. John's Lutheran Church Path were held at 10 am on Sunday December 31 1958. Dr Otto R Schawe officiated assisted by church officers. Construction to cost 16000 to 18000 dollars excluding labor will proceed with Cox Construction of San Antonio pouring the slab and volunteer labor to erect the super structure.

Vote to Protect Our 1500 School Children Now

A call to residents to approve a maintenance tax increase to fund the Floresville school system. The notice warns that without a 25 cent rate rise or property tax evaluation hike, the district cannot cover 80 percent state education costs and soon faces reduced services, larger classes, and tripled maintenance needs. Public statements from Floresville Board of Trustees and local officials urge voters to support schools in the December 13 election at City Hall Floresville, Fairview, and Sutherland Springs Community Center.
