Floresville Christmas Eve Program Sets Citywide Celebration

Floresville Chamber of Commerce plans a 6 p.m. December 24 event in front of the Wilson County courthouse. Old Santa Claus arrives with the Floresville Fire Department, the city band plays carols, and the fire crew helps hand out fruit bags to children. Football Banquet Honors Floresville Tigers Champions

The Floresville Tigers District Champions for 1947 will be honored at the annual football banquet hosted by the Parent-Teacher Association. The event is Tuesday December 16 at 7 p.m. in the basement of the Methodist Church. Plates are $1. Reservations should be made at Ballard Drug Store by Monday December 15. A large crowd is expected for the season finale program highlighting a Southwestern Conference football game.

Floresville school band receives wide praise across Texas for top state awards in War Bond contests. It won marching prizes at the Guero Turkey Trot and a $75 cash award against ten bands on Armistice Day. Citizens urged to attend and contribute to honor the group.

Christmas Program By Musical Club Ushers In Yuletide Season

The Floresville Musical Club opened the yuletide season with a Homemaking Cottage program led by Mrs. W. M. Donaho. Eugene Skinner played Monastery Bells, Miss Nancy Dickerson read The Star, a quartet sang Oh Holy Night and Christmas Lullaby, and Mrs. Moody Monroe read The Well of the Star. Gifts were distributed from a generously donated tree, with festive decorations throughout the cottage.

Smith's Modern Drug Store to Open Next Monday

Smith's Drug Store owned by E F Smith will open in a modern new building on December 15 after months of renovations. The business previously occupied half the building with Busy Bee Cafe, later purchasing the entire property from Paul Kuban. A full description will follow after opening day.

Manchaca Schools Consolidated In Nearby Move

The Manchaca school building was relocated this week from its former site to St. Peters school property in a nearby community. The two campuses have been consolidated with both buildings to be occupied, and the updated arrangement places the schools together at the new site.

Eastern Star Matron Honored With Annual Banquet In Floresville

Floresville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star honored Worthy Matron Mrs Iva Stevens with a Christmas banquet at the Methodist church basement. The event featured an organ prelude by Mrs Horace Lowman, festive decor, a program themed The Trail That Leads To You, tributes from several members, and a postbanquet program in the Eastern Star hall with out of town visitors welcomed.

Goodwill Christmas Edition Printer Date Notice

The Chronicle Journal announces its annual Goodwill Christmas Edition to print Friday December 19. Correspondents must mail weekly letters by Monday with no fail and repeat the process the following week. Church notices social items and ads should be mailed or brought Monday not later than Tuesday morning. Extra copies will be wrapped for mailing and sold for 10 cents each at the office with holiday features from Fioresville Poth and others.

Pearsall Mavericks Triumph 47-7 For Bi-District Crown

Pearsall Mavericks defeat Floresville Tigers 47 to 7 to claim the bi district championship on December 4 in Pearsall. Gabe Galloway and Teddy Riggs starred as Pearsall built a sizable lead with multiple rushing touchdowns while Floresville mounted a late challenge before Pearsall sealed the victory and advanced to the regional clash at Victoria against Port Lavaca.

Floresville Fire Zone Law Warns Against Fireworks

A Floresville notice warns that shooting any fireworks in the city fire zone is illegal and could cause a disastrous fire. It specifies roman candles sky rockets firecrackers and similar devices are prohibited in the four main business blocks and urges compliance for holiday safety.
