A recent informal reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Murray, Sr. featured Mrs. Mur rs ae L. Mitchell among guests. The event, held Friday evening at six, displayed pretty flower decorations and drew hearty well wishes for the hosts as they hosted friends and family.
The Chronicle-Journal announces an increase in yearly subscriptions from $1.50 to $2.00 effective January 1 1920. Readers who pay before that date may renew at the old rate and are urged to read the Special Announcement on page 3. Subscribers are invited to settle now.
The Chronicle Journal will publish its Christmas edition next Friday December 19 1919. Advertisers are urged to submit ads and announcements early this week and merchants are asked to send in news items to make the edition one of the best ever.

The Woman's Missionary Society met at the church for the Week of Prayer with Mesdames S. H. Zook and John Spruce leading. Despite cold weather, both programs were well rendered and enjoyed. Officers for the coming year include President H T Graham and Treasurer A R Davis.
The trial of John W. Lowe for the murder of Calvin Tullos on November 3, 1919, in Jourdanton concluded with a life sentence in the state penitentiary. The crowded courtroom heard lengthy proceedings including defense and prosecution arguments and a nearly three hour closing speech by District Attorney Morris. A related charge against Lowe for the murder of Will G. Tullos remains on the docket.
The Floresville Cemetery Association meets this Friday at 3:00 PM at the home of Mrs. E. D. Mayes. All members are urged and cordially invited to attend.

At First Evangelical Lutheran church the schedule lists Bible School at 9:30 a.m. Divine services in English at 10:45 a.m. Vesper services with sermon in English at 7:00 p.m. German preaching at Dewees school house at 2:30 p.m. A Brotherhood meeting is planned for Tuesday night, December 16, at Dan Schellhasse's home.
The district court session enters its fourth week with the J S Lumpkin forgery case moved from Atascosa colony and set for today. Tom Bean, colored, faces forgery charges and was sentenced to 1 9 years with a suspended sentence. court may adjourn tonight unless Lumpkin is tried.
Tonight at 7:00 o clock the Royal Arch Masons invite all members and companions to join the subad vocation of Flore 3 Chapter No. 160 R. A. M. An cordial invitation is extended to attend the event.
