Russell W. Smith becomes Acting Floresville Postmaster succeeding Elbert W. Franklin who retired November 30 1959. Smith has 19 years in the postal service and long local residence.
A Wilson County notice requests voters in the Democratic Primary on May 7, 1960 to elect the widow of Hal V. Warren as County Clerk to fill the 2 year term. The candidate asks for thoughtful consideration and support from the electorate.
Floresville School Band under Director Fritz Teltschik earned first place in Class AA at the state marching contest in Pearsall. Judges praised their uniforms and overall appearance. the band invites community support at the annual Christmas concert December 17 at 8 p.m.
J E Brite SWPGA Director from Pleasanton urges peanut growers to vote in the December 15 1959 referendum to decide marketing quotas for 1960 61 and 62 crops. If two thirds approve quotas will take effect for three years. if disapproved, no quotas in 1960 and price support drops to 50 percent. The 1960 Wilson County Jr. Livestock Show will be held in Floresville on January 18 at a site to be announced. Preliminary checks indicate more livestock and poultry on feed. 4-H and FFA members must submit entry blanks to their supervisor by December 20. judges named include Hollis Duke George McAllister W P McNalley Harvey Hoermann Louis Kolodziej.

Oil reports from Wilson Dimmit and Maverick counties detail new shallow wildcats for District One. Motex Oil Co of San Antonio plans an 8,000 foot Wilson County wildcat six miles southwest of Stockdale near the No 1 dry hole, with starts in a few days on a lease north and east lines. Jerome Pawelek in Karnes Wilson line tests at 10,890 feet in the Glenn Rose formation. R and N Drilling Co Houston to move in for Ada Oil Edwards wildcat in Karnes, with 10,500 foot depth and potential Glen Rose entry.
Floresville School Band under Director Fritz Teltschik will perform its annual Christmas concert at the high school gym Thursday night December 17 at 8 00 PM. The band will unveil new uniforms and aims to deliver a memorable program with the Band Mothers credited for funding. A free will offering will be collected.
About 50 Texans will travel by train to Chicago this weekend for the 41st annual American Farm Bureau Federation convention. Delegates from 49 states will adopt national policies to guide legislative battles next year. Texas, with the fifth largest membership, will send six voting delegates. The Texas Farm Bureau urged government to play a divisive role in agriculture and favored price supports to aid orderly marketing over guaranteed prices. Delegates also sought to reduce surpluses and cost to taxpayers, restore farmer freedom, and support a conservation reserve financed by in kind payments to keep cropland unused long term for bona fide farmers.

State Highway Patrolmen David Plumbley and Roy Helms reported two car accidents near Floresville and San Antonio. A Floresville coach, Freddie Woodward, and players were in a Floresville Chevrolet when it collided with a 1951 Ford pickup driven by Arturo Estrada near East Central High School on FM Road 1628. Estrada, Aranda, and Perez sustained minor injuries and cuts, while Woodward and the Floresville players were uninjured. A second crash on Highway 81 north of town involved Romelio Longoria in a 1950 Chevrolet and Joe Albert Kubena in a 1957 Mercury, with no injuries.
The Haiduk Jewelry Store burglary of November 16 is solved. Felipe Villarreal and Geronimo Marquez, both of San Antonio, are in Wilson County jail awaiting trial on burglary charges and related offenses in other counties. Villarreal was arrested in Floresville within two hours. Marquez fled to San Antonio with watches valued at more.
The Floresville Chamber of Commerce sponsors a trades day with 175 cash and turkeys awards. Attendance prizes total 150 dollars plus five five-dollar awards. Turkeys, cash, and signups will be available at the courthouse square Saturday night at 7.00 PM. Darkey registration runs 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. winners announced at 7:00 PM. Floresville merchants report Christmas bargains and family-friendly participation.
Wilson County Telephone Company will send several crews to test telephones in the Kosciusko and Gillett areas from December 7 to December 30 as part of completing a new dial telephone plant to be in operation around January 1, 1960. C. W. Millikin, Manager.
