Grisham Ice Cream Chooses Floresville for New Creamery

The Grisham Ice Cream Company of Corpus Christi will open a complete creamery plant in Floresville by January 15. R. C. Ridgell will manage operations, the Klaesel building is leased, and part of the plant has already moved from Brownsville. The project, costing about 12000 dollars, will produce butter ice cream and other dairy products for local sale and shipment. The firm seeks local dairy suppliers and plans to serve the Floresville region with modern facilities and capacity.

R C Lange Buried Here Past Monday

Rudolph C. Lange a long time Wilson County resident died at his home near Floresville on Sunday December 6 1936 at 415 pm age 78. He was born in Brandenburg Germany June 12 1858 and came to Texas at age ten. He is buried in Floresville Cemetery beside his Lange family homestead near Cibolo after a life that followed farming and Lutheran faith.

A community play titled Bound To Marry will be staged at the Camp Ranch school house Saturday night December 12 at 8 o clock Tickets cost 10 cents and 2 bits admission Dance after the play is free to ticket buyers All are invited for an enjoyable evening.

Christmas Broadcast Dec 20 by San Antonio Orphans

WOAI in San Antonio will air a special Christmas program on Sunday morning December 20 at 10 am featuring the children of the Protestant Orphan's Home. The play The Little Town of Bethlehem will be presented by arrangement, with a 65 voice chorus. Sunday Schools across the district will listen as the broadcast serves as their lesson for the day.

District Court Clears Docket This Term

The fall term adjourns soon after a busy session with 65 cases disposed, 44 civil and 21 criminal. Divorces, pleas and dismissals mark the civil docket while three criminal cases were delayed due to counsel illness. Jurors for the spring term will be chosen Dec. 12 at 9 a.m. by commissioners Swift, Woellert and Donaho.

Two Former Floresville Citizens Die Recently

The Chronicle Journal was informed this week by J M Tipton of the deaths of two well known Floresville and Wilson County citizens. E B Hudson, 75, died at Westbrook Texas Mitchell County on December 25, 1986, and is buried.

Stockdale Brahmas Defeat Floresville 12 to 0 in Victory

The Stockdale Brahmas, district champions, defeated Floresville Tigers 12 to 0 to close the season. Baker blocked a Floresville punt, W Smith connected with T Smith on a first quarter score, and V Smith added a late nine yard run. An injury to Floresville halfback Alex Lopez occurred early.

Spencer Fatally Shot While Deer Hunting Near Vance

C W Spencer, 55, local auto salesman, was killed late Monday afternoon when another hunter mistook him for a deer in a pasture near Vance Texas. He died about two hours later. Funeral services expected Wednesday. The Spencer family, longtime residents, are from Falls City and Mrs Spencer was formerly Miss Tiny Culpepper. The Chronicle Journal extends condolences.

Farm Loan Association Meeting Draws Crowd

The Floresville National Farm Loan Association held a December meeting at the courthouse with over a hundred borrowers from Wilson County in attendance. Federal Land Bank official McWhirter spoke on loan conditions, noting a 4 percent rate versus prior nine percent rates and $2,250,000 loaned to 815 farmers. He praised member cooperation and expected move to class one, and agreed to attend the FFA banquet that night.

Texas Teachers Praises NYA Program At Convention

At the annual Texas State Teachers Association meeting in Fort Worth officials praised the National Youth Administration for its work with schools. NYA funds aided 16,503 students to stay in school, with 10,221 in 2,119 elementary schools and 6,282 in 87 colleges and universities earning up to six dollars a month.

Democratic Contributors To Be On Honor Roll

A Texas effort lists all donors to the Democratic National Campaign fund. Over 20,000 Texas Democrats contributed about 275000 to the prior campaign and now will be added to an honor roll being compiled at state and national headquarters. The roll will also include donors in the current state drive to raise 500000 to cover a party deficit.

Mrs. John Pickett, chairman, announced the Wilson County Chapter of the American Red Cross has 152 members enrolled for the year, with a goal of 200 before Christmas. Membership costs $1.00 per year. New members added Wednesday include Mr. and Mrs. Cicero Harper of Sunnyside and Mrs. J. C. Cuellar and Mrs. Julia Cuellar in Floresville.

Floresville FFA Father and Son Banquet Honors Dr Linke

Floresville FFA chapter hosted an annual Father and Son banquet at the high school with Dr J A Linke of Washington DC as honored guest. The program featured student project reports, speeches by visitors, a PT A prepared menu, and musical interlude by Billie Bundrick. Over 150 attendees, including dads and guests, attended. Leon Kreidel was praised as a standout vocational agriculture teacher.
