Floresville Santa Visits for Free Cash Prizes

Floresville Lions Club and local merchants hosted Old Saint Nick last Saturday at Ballard Drug Building for a pre Christmas event. From 2 to 6 pm families received free candy and chance to win cash prizes via a free ticket draw at 5 pm. Tomorrow another two hour period 2 to 4 pm offers more free tickets with a 15, 10, and two 5 dollar prizes. Winners last week included Leon Koenig 15 dollars Felix Marruquin 10 Carman Miranda 5 Oscar Keylich 5.60.

County Women’s Democratic Club Meeting On Social Security

The County Women’s Democratic Club held a recent meeting in which Mrs. E. E. Irvin led a program on the new Social Security Law. She defined terms, explained benefits with teacher perspectives, and cited cases of beneficiaries, followed by a general discussion before adjournment.

Floresville Band Wins First Division At Luling Contest

Floresville School Band placed first in AA division at the Luling marching contest held Saturday under Region 6 UIL auspices. Cuero and Poth also earned top honors in their divisions. Floresville noted for twirling and strong overall performance. A December 22 Christmas concert at Floresville High School gym will feature the prize winning band with a free will offering to cover expenses.

Floresville to U.S. 87 Highway Project Planned

The Texas Highway Commission announced a 1955 program from Floresville to U S 87 on U S Highway 181, about 10.8 miles, including base improvement, widening and resurfacing to protect public investment. Work to begin as funds are secured and right of way obtained. E H Jr, chairman, stated the plan and funding origin.

Floresville Jaguars Open Season With Seven Wins

The Floresville Jaguars girls basketball team coached by Mrs. Hattie Fuller started strong this season with six lettermen returning and a fast, cohesive lineup. The A and B teams posted solid scores against Poteet and Poth, with leaders Frick, Kurtz, Clark, Ring, Gaaydos, Lewis, Raska, and Eschenbure shining as guards and scorers.

The Bell Ringers Of Lackland AFB to Perform

The Bell Ringers, a ten member unit from the U S Air Force band, will perform Wednesday December 15 at 7 30 p m in the local gymnasium. They use bells manufactured by Whitechapel Bell Foundry England and are specially arranged by Capt Nissly. Mrs Philip John sponsors from Lackland APB. Democratic Club Anniversary Dinner Slated January 21

The Wilson County Democratic Women’s Club plans a fire anniversary dinner in Floresville likely at the Legion Hall on Friday night January 21 with Hon. John C. White Texas Agriculture Commissioner invited as principal speaker. Other regional Democrats will attend as details on time and program are announced. Saspamee Youth Killed In Crash Near New Braunfels

A 22 year old from Saspamee, Jimmy Garcia Seguin Jr., died when the car he rode in overturned eight miles north of New Braunfels. He fell from the vehicle and the car rolled over, crushing him. Saspamee lies in Wilson County.

Mrs. Clay's Mother Dies At Goliad

Mrs Willms age 87 died at her home near Goliad Monday morning after a heart attack. Funeral held at 10 o'clock Wednesday in Goliad was well attended, reflecting her status as a pioneer resident. Billy and Bobby Clay attended from El Paso area. The Clay family and friends extend sympathy to mourners.

Donaho Sells Registered Holstein Ball to Mexico

W M Donaho of Floresville Texas exported a registered Holstein Friesian ball to Mexico. The animal named Kondyke Law Typlus was sold to Ricardo C Tantú Leal of Monterrey. In 1953 shipments of registered Holsteins were sent to 25 nations, with rising export activity especially to South America.

Donaho Jr Sells 12 Cows and 1 Bull to Mexico

Floresville Texas exporter Donaho Jr recently shipped twelve registered Holstein cows and one bull to Mexico. The animals include Elsie Ray AppleSRD Benefactor Nancy SRD Benefactor Sue SRD Texas Beauty series and the bull SRD Texas Beauty Topper. During 1953 shipments of registered Holsteins went to 23 nations with rising export activity, especially to South America.

Wilson County Wildcat oil well planned near Karnes Texas

A 6500 foot oil wildcat, the Wilson County Wildcat, is to be drilled by George H. Coatea of San Antonio for Mary Koether. The No. 1 Koether will be about 330 feet from the east line of a 80 acre lease in Dean Gaspar Flores Survey six miles west of Karnes Gay. The target lies southeast of the Three Oaks School and northeast of Superior Oil Co. No. 1 J Merchant in Gaspar Field, with past producing wells yielding significant gas flow.
