Blood drive urged as Wilson County needs donations

Bec Brumlow administrator of the local blood bank warns of a definite shortage. A mobile unit will visit Memorial Hospital Floreville on Thursday December 9 from 3 30 to 8 30 pm to collect blood for the Wilson County Blood Bank. Over 1000 pints have been dispensed in three years and the bank covers all qualified patients regardless of race creed or color. Donations are critical between Thanksgiving and Christmas and the community is urged to give. SHOW YOU CARE.

Wood retires from Texas Highway Department after long service

Burton R. Wood, Maintenance Construction Supervisor in Floresville, retires effective November 10, 1971, after joining the department in 1928. He led Wilson County maintenance since 1947 and will be on earned vacation through December 31, 1971. His sons, one in New Braunfels and one in San Antonio, followed careers in maintenance and radio technology.

On Thursday December 16 1971 a snack supper runs 6 to 730 p m in the Jr High Cafeteria with an open house at the new band hall. Immediately after the snack supper the Christmas Concert unfolds at the Wiley Seale Auditorium with all bands performing.

The Legend of the Christmas Rose an operetta will be staged Sunday and Monday December 12 and 13 at 7 30 p m in Sacred Heart Hall by Sacred Heart Elementary and High students. The story follows a self satisfied grandfather who learns a lesson when his grandson turns against him as the Seekad unfolds Robber Father receives a ransom letter from Archbishop. The full operetta is filled with dramatic action and holiday themes.

Arthur Gembler Post 375 American Legion will hold its annual Christmas party on December 12, 1971 at the Legion Home on Highway 181 South past Loop 410. A covered dish dinner starts at 1 p.m. Roast Turkey provided. Members and immediate families invited. Each family to bring a covered dish. A Christmas program will follow the dinner. Henry Kotzur, a junior tight end for Southwest Texas State University Bobcats, earns All Conference first team offensive honors in the Lone Star Conference. Kotzur, a Bayeur letterman, has been selected captain of the 1972 Southwest Texas State team.

Winston C. Davis Appointed District Deputy Grand Master

Waco Texas December 2 Senator Jack Hightower Vernon installed today as Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas and announced Mine axe Davis of Floresville as district deputy. Davis, an active Mason in the area, will serve 10 lodges as the Grand Master’s representative for one year.
