Christmas Party for Needy Children in Wilson County

A community effort plans a Christmas party for Wilson County children lacking toys or food. The event at Columbus and downtown Priellas on Saturday December 17 begins around 1:30 PM, with Lions Club, Diamond T, Flores Drug, First Lutheran, and Heart Catholic groups involved.

Lucky Buck Winners Named as Draws Continue Next Week

The first of four Lucky Bucks drawings was held this week with winners named on Monday December 5. First place went to Mrs Trine Barrientez for $35, second to Lucia H Ortiz for $25, and Maria T Garza took $20. Ten $10 winners include Eloy Courvier, Bill Millikin, Martin Ballin Jr, Mary T Juarez, Elaine Urbanczyk, Maricelas Barrintez, and Maggie Garza. Four free turkeys were won by Yolanda Valdez, Lilly Barrera, Mark Short, and Janie Navarro. The next drawing is scheduled for Monday December.

SPJST Lodge 107 Christmas Party Set for December 11

SPJST Lodge 107 hosts its annual Christmas Party on Sunday December 11 1983 starting at 12 30 PM. Ham drinks and utensils provided bring a vegetable and a dessert youth club to share two dozen cookies per family. Toys for Tots donations encouraged wrapped with recipient details. A short general meeting will follow in the afternoon.

Burglars Busy On Hwy 181 North

Burglars visited the residence of Mrs. Ernst Koenig this weekend and took guns costume jewelry a small amount of cash a TV and a microwave. They opened several gift wrap packages but left them. Items were intended for quick sale. County officers investigated and fingerprints were taken.

The Floresville Lions Club votes a 100 dollar donation to the Needy Children Toy Fund administered by Floresville Human Resources. They join civic and church groups to collect toys for needy children at Christmas. The Christmas Party is postponed due to scheduling conflicts.

Wilson County 4-Hers Vie In District Food Show

Wilson County 4-H members enter the Coastal Bend District 4-H Food Show at Texas A&I University Student Center with senior and Pee divisions. Contestants face prized dishes in breads cereals fruits vegetables main dishes and nutritious snacks and will answer judges questions on nutrition ahead of a state show bid.

Cordes-State Wool Contest Winner

Donna Lynne Cordes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oney Cordes of Floresville, won the State Make It With Wool contest at Texas Woman's University in Denton. A sophomore at San Antonio College, she represented District 7 among eight Senior Division contestants and earned a $250 scholarship, a sewing machine, and wool fabric. She will compete in the National contest January 17-20, 1984 in Phoenix, Arizona.

One Week Left to Help EMS Christmas Greeting Drive

Floresville and Poth residents are urged to donate by Friday December 16 to the sixth annual Operation Christmas Greeting for the Wilson County Volunteer Ambulance Association. The drive, organized by Xi Upsilon Pi, shifts holiday cards into charitable gifts and publishes contributor listings in the paper. Donations support three ambulances and ongoing supplies as volunteers respond to about 45 calls monthly with a three minute response time.
