An association announces a meeting to inspect three farms for CCC Camp erosion work. Emilee in the Loma area and Leo Johns at the Loma Vista stops will be shown. The event highlights contouring and weeding demonstrations and invites community members to attend.
The 87th district court in Bexar County presided by Judge Harry J. Howard and Judge S. B. Carr heard the exchange of benches case. The jury deliberated until Wednesday at 3 pm and was discharged at noon yesterday after failing to agree, resulting in a mistrial. The long docketed suit previously had a judgment for the plaintiff and was reversed by the Supreme Court.
The body of Mrs. Ora Lee Eggleston 38 was interred at Mission Burial Park after funeral services at the family residence in Alamo Heights conducted by Rev. F M. Davis. She died at home Saturday after 27 years in San Antonio. Surviving are her widower George B. Eggleston three daughters Frances Mae Betty Ora Lee and her mother Susie Clark of San Antonio a brother Harry Clark of Harlingen and pallbearers Dr J W Oxford Gunter Duckworth Hal Browne Joe E Carroll Murray Brooks and Walter Skinner. The San Antonio Evening News notes the family’s shock and mourns the loss of a longtime city resident and respected member of its community.
Washington December details of 1036 937 contracts offered to farmers for corn hog control emphasize balanced farming. Contracts, effective Sunday, aim to reduce hog production by about 80 percent in 1936. Higher prices upset consumers amid hog shortages and protests.
Musical Club announces its annual Christmas party on December 10 with details to be released. The event invites members and guests to gather for a holiday program and refreshments at an unspecified venue.
The Floresville area field day will host F. FoAy and F. A. boys from local vocational classes. Aeon Kreidel, a Floresville teacher, will lead his whole class to visit the camps. Camp foremen will explain erosion work and farm inspections are planned. John Hagler from Stockdale is invited to bring his F. F.A. group too.
A fire of unknown origin destroyed the old Sandifer home near Sacred Heart School and church at Pe 8 00 p m last Sunday. Firemen arrived late and could not save the building. Owned by Rev Father P P Zarb the parish priest, it was occupied by Pete Granier with some furnishings saved.
Farmers rejoiced as 1.02 inches of rain fell Tuesday night and into Wednesday, boosting onion seed planting in Floresville area. About 60 percent of onion acreage has been planted. 40 percent awaiting rain. Some 800 acres of onions to be planted in a week or ten days weather permitting. C. C. Janik of Ferguson and Shake says 500 more acres of spinach will be planted in Wilson county, with early harvest of spinach expected December 15 to 20. The rain is described as very timely and beneficial.
The Kenedy Lions, District 38 B champions, meet Bay City Black Cats, District 37 B victors, tonight at 8 pm under lights at Victoria High School. Fans from both towns will arrive by special train from Kenedy at 4 pm, returning after the game. round trip $1.05. Floresville supporters also plan to attend.
The Floresville Woman's Missionary Society met at the church on Monday afternoon. Mrs. R. K. Heacock attended and Mrs. J. H. Spruce read a District Harvest Day letter noting a December 12 event at Travis Park to which the society is invited.
Under the New Deal, Roosevelt era aid to Wilson County farmers lists 1,014 cotton contracts. Rented acres total 18,958 with payments totaling 57,760.01. Amounts due include 29,347.17 on cotton contracts and 142,380.60 on certificates sent to pool.
Mrs. Fred Knauber and Mrs. L. F. Brown hosted the Sunny Side Home Demonstration Club on Tuesday August 8 at the farm home. In the president’s absence, members gathered for the session noted on SUNNYSIDE- page 8.
Work began in Floresville last week on a countywide W. P. A. project in conjunction with the State Health Department. The effort focuses on malaria control and drainage. OE Q. Jones is superintendent and urges all owners and others to cooperate with the program.
Mrs Earl Mayo age 23 was killed on the Palacios highway Friday evening at 7 while riding with two friends. A car door flew open and she fell out striking her head on concrete, dying instantly. She leaves a husband and an 80 month old daughter. Relatives attend Powell funeral in Floresville.
Floresville High defeated Jourdanton High 32 to 18 in a final Thanksgiving game. Floresville used mostly the second team, with Houston and Ximenes scoring early and Herro Dunn and Pfeil adding late touchdowns. Key players included Schroller, Herro, Ximenes, Dunn, Vasina, Marshall, Lozano and Tomlinson.
Miss Nora Barber of Floresville and William Atkins of near Kenedy were married on Thanksgiving Day by Rev. Lewis McVea at his Floresville home. Only immediate family and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Park of Nursery attended. The bride, daughter of D. W. Barber, is a Floresville High School graduate and a teacher at Wallace Branch School.
