Texas motor vehicle inspections lag behind last year

Colonel Wilson E. Speir of the Texas Department of Public Safety says inspections are nearly 30 percent behind the prior year. If the rate does not improve, long lines may form at stations before the April 15 deadline. In the year ending August 31, 6.3 million vehicles were inspected. since September 1, only 538,000 have been. The act requires new stickers after September 1 that expire 12 months from issue, with a separate month-tab visible on the windshield. The old stickers lack a tab and are on the passenger side. The program aims to detect defects that could cause a second spat. Texans are urged to comply.
