Public Hearings on New Bus Lines Held in Wilson County

The Texas Railroad Commission chaired by John G. Ross held three hearings at the Wilson county courthouse on new bus routes. J. B. Connally seeks a line from McCoy to San Marcos via Floresville and nearby towns. L. H. Wheeler requests a segment from Lockhart to San Antonio via multiple towns with state highway routes. J. R. Luker advances a Karnes City to San Marcos route via Nixon and Stockdale. Greyhound and Union Bus Lines oppose all new lines. Luker and Connally are represented by Marshall Bell and W. E. Pope respectively.

A H Raabe Laid To Rest At Path

A H Raabe dies after lingering illness at home near Path on November 21 1936. Requiem at Blessed Sacrament and Catholic interment followed. Rev Father James Marsellier officiated. He helped found Path church cemetery, widow predeceased him by fourteen years. Born January 26 1865 in Ellinger Texas, he married Barbara Bohm and had five children, thirteen grandchildren, and many relatives.

Floresville PTA Meeting Postponed To Dec 10 3:30 PM

The Floresville Parent-Teacher Association meeting, announced last week, is postponed from December 3 to 3:30 p m December 10 due to a football game with Stockdale at the same hour. Publicity Chairman says the meeting will be held in the high school auditorium.

Turkey price fixing denied amid Texas complaints

Washington officials said no evidence supported claims that turkeys priced around 28 cents a pound in Chicago came from packer collusion. Mohler noted probes in Crawford Mc Gregor Waco and Gonzales found no basis for price fixing, while a live Texas price of 12 cents per pound was cited.

Employees Asked to Return SS-5 Forms by Dec 5

Floresville post office reports about 858 blanks mailed to employers for distribution among workers. Include SS-5 forms, with full filling instructions, to be returned to the post office by December 5 1936. after processing, workers will receive individual account numbers for future employment.

Democrats Urged To Help Clear National Deficit

Austin Texas December 1 state Democratic leaders appeal for funds to wipe out a half million dollar national committee deficit. With about a quarter of the 50000 Texas quota raised through August eight thousand contributions arrived, and Roy Miller says Texas Democrats can reach the 50000 goal if district and county leaders solicit donations. He praises regional responsiveness and urges more volunteers to help.

District Court To Close Next Week For Few Trials

District Court will close next week as only a handful of cases remain. In the latest dispositions the docket shows dismissals on two Daniel Gonzales cases and two Daniel Martinez cases for robbery by assault. Harvey Flowers faced burglary charges in another state case, while A S Carbojal was charged with theft and Poli Garcia with assault.

Roosevelt Lead Tops 10 7 Million In Latest Vote Tabulation

Houston Chronicle reported the November 3 election totals with President Roosevelt leading Governor Landon by about 10.1 million votes. Major and minor party tallies were incomplete, but show Roosevelt ahead, Moogely Teatly 27,109,428 to Landon 16,383,451, with Lemke 742,513 Browder 60,255 Colvin 22,950 Aiken 8,735 and Carter 67,208 among others. Total reported votes reached roughly 44.5 million.

Robert Lee Johnson Dies Near Floresville

Robert Lee Johnson, 71, died at his farm north of Floresville on Wednesday November 25, 1936 after a week with pneumonia. Burial followed at Dewees cemetery beside relatives. Rev E E Tankersley led rites. Mrs Tankersley sang. Born October 81, 1865 near Lockhart he lived in Caldwell county as a youth, farmed in Floresville, spent years in Louisiana then returned to Wilson county in 1934. He joined Floresville Baptist Church and supported the Full Faith Gospel Tabernacle. Survived by wife eight children three stepchildren twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren two sisters.

1936 All-District 42-B Football Eleven

The Cuero Record lists the mythical all-district 42-B football eleven as chosen by writers and fans from seven towns. Floresville had no first-team picks. Bill Dunn and Clifton Stadler received second-team honors, with players from Yorktown, Kenedy, Beeville, Victoria, Edna, Cuero, and Edna represented across positions.

CORPUS CHRISTI Texas Dec 1 A group of farmers and ranchers with support from the South Texas Chamber of Commerce proposed an experimental cattle feeding study in South Texas. Delegates from Houston San Antonio the Rio Grande Valley and Beeville outlined plans to promote the project to boost the regional cattle industry.

Floresville PTSA Banquet Honors Tiger Team at Grammar School

The Floresville Parent-Teacher Association hosted its annual football banquet for the Tiger squad coaches and fans at the grammar school. Seventy-one guests filled long tables in red and white chrysanthemum decor with mint favors, a menu including olives and roast turkey, and honors for players and staff.

Red Cross Members Still Being Enrolled in 1936 Roll Call

Wilson County Chapter of the American Red Cross reports 148 members enrolled as of yesterday noon for the annual Roll Call. Dues are $1 for one year and enrollment is open at county banks or through committee members Mrs. John Pickett and Mrs. Hal V. Warren. Aim is 175 members. recent new members include Mrs. Ed Franklin, Dr. J. Blake, Sr. and Lee McDaniel.
