Students in fourth and fifth grades presented Thanksgiving themed programs before the holiday. Room 8 performed a sock puppet show with self written scripts, while Room 3 staged The Spirit of Thanksgivings directed by Mrs Higgins. Bruce Sanders accompanied songs as pictures of gratitude flashed on an overhead projector.
Immunization clinics are scheduled each Wednesday in December 1976 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Professional Building in Floresville Texas. The New Jersey Swine Influenza vaccine will be available to adults 18 and older with priority for those over 65 and those with chronic diseases. The program aims to avert a potential epidemic and reduce illness and death.
Floresville merchants announce Special Buys for Christmas shoppers starting Thursday December 9. A Special Tabloid Supplement to the Floresville Chronicle Journal will be mailed with the regular issue for gift buyers. Free turkeys will be given away at 8:15 p.m. December 9.
The 1976 seventh and eighth grade volleyball season closed on November 6 with the eighth grade girls taking first in district and the seventh grade girls tying Goliad for district. Notable eighth graders include Marconi Postert Trevino Borjon Gomez Ferrell Griffin Lucio Krawietz Rodriguez Rodriguez Cervantez. seventh graders include Aranda Moreno Price Ullman Rios Travieso Barrera Roemer Cordes Reynolds Martinez Olenick Bayer Ximinez Parsons. Managers were Alise Bramlow and Diana Morales. Coach Brisco looks forward to another successful year.
Poth High School honors 9th grade Sharon Jendrzey Mary Ann Kaminski 10th grade Diane Opiela Forrest Kelman 11th grade Adolph Sema 12th grade Nancy Zidek Marvin Meyer Therese Sekula David Kotara Denise Dugi Russell Boening Frances Repka. Honors include 80 or better in each subject for 11 names in 9th grade and a longer list of 30 plus to receive honor roll 80 or better in all subjects for 10th 11th and 12th grades with numerous students listed.
Poth Pirates 31 4 advance to a quarterfinal against Barbers Hill Eagles 25 A after beating Lytle Pirates 20 8 in regional play last Friday night in El Campo. In 1968 Poth appeared in the state playoffs but fell to Sonora 9 0.
Bobby Cullum will speak during a three day Church of Christ meeting starting December Sth at 10 45 a m and 6 p m with sessions through Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p m. A Preston Road School of Preaching graduate, he has written articles and appeared on local Austin television programs while working with Texas and Louisiana churches. He is 28 and married to Phyllis with four children.
Boys varsity Tigers beat Jourdanton 61 to 48 while junior varsity 37 to 28. Jaguars varsity lose to Poth 51 to 39 and 66 to 22, with season records 2-1 and 1-5 respectively.
Twelve Floresville youths attended the San Antonio Lutheran Youth Congress at the Sheraton Motor Hotel from Friday noon to Sunday noon. Attendees included Randell Leiich Glenn Lerich Leone Pfeil Dale Pfeil Mark Seat Cindy Roemer Cheryl Roemer and Marvin Roemer. The trip was funded by donations and participant support with thanks extended to parents and supporters.
In a 20-8 Class A regional football victory at Lytle, Poth overcame a slow start as Dan Brodbeck steadied the team at halftime with humor and adjustments. Mike Jimenez led the offense in the first half while Rusell kept option runs in the second, and Brian Raabe sealed the win with a four-yard score after a 67-yard drive. Lytle’s defense initially stifled Poth, but penalties and punting woes hurt the Wildcats, and Lytle’s coach Barry Poth praised his squad despite six turnovers and a faulty kicking game.
Floresville Barracks No 1724 schedules its regular meeting at 2100 hours December 7 at the American Legion Hall in Floresville. All World War One veterans are invited to attend. Auxiliary Barracks 1724 will meet at the same time and all members are urged to participate.
The Guadalupe Novena starts December 4 at homes across the community and runs through December 10. A service continues at Sacred Heart Church on the 10th. Early gatherings begin at 7 30 PM at listed residences including Fred Ramirez 914 Reail St Martin Sanchez Rt 2 Box 101 A Julian Trevino 1107 Plum and others.
