Region 5B Championship Game Set for Friday Night

The Lyndon B. Johnson Eagles meet the Skidmore Bobcats in Floresville for the Region 5-B championship at Eschenburg Field with game time to be announced. Johnson City holds a 9-0-1 season and 265 points, while Skidmore enters undefeated at 11-0 with 321 points scored against 4. Grand Opening festivities at Kenneth Brown Ford Sales run Friday and Saturday with free prize cameras, refreshments, and inventory showcases of 1966 Fords, Comets, Mercurys, pickups, and trucks.

Bonazza named pastor at St Estales La Vernia

The Alamo Messenger reports Rev. Benjamin Bonazza is appointed pastor of St Estales at La Vernia. St Marys parish of Stockdale will become a mission of St Annes parish. The decree, final Nov 3, 1965, comes from Archbishop Robert E. Lucey of San Antonio. Previously Stockdale served from Floresville and La Vernia from St Hedwig.

Wilson County 4H Receives Sears Breeding Swine

Six Wilson County 4H members received Duroe breeding swine on November 24, sponsored by Sears Foundation. The program, now distributing in November, asks each participant to return one pig next year while five others will receive replacements. Paired with the ongoing Texas-wide swine distribution effort, the change shifts timing from May to November.

Turkey and deer dominate Lohse weekend visit in Skidmore

ee and Mrs Emil Lohse visited Skidmore for Thanksgiving holidays. They hunted and Friday morning Mr Lohse shot a turkey and a six point buck. His grandson Carrol also shot a turkey that day. On Saturday he took a five point buck dressed at 116 pounds with a 21 inch spread. Saturday night Skidmore Bobcats beat Banquette 42 to 0 in district playoff football. The Lohses have two grandsons Carrol and Bill on the Skidmore team.

Poth Football Banquet Set For December 20

50 Year Reader of Chronicle Journal profiles Mr R C Albert

Mr R C Albert of Poth, a Chronicle Journal reader for 30 years, spoke at our office. He moved to Poth with his parents on December 6, 1906 at age 17, ran a hardware store for 28 years, served eight years as Justice of the Peace, retired in 1946, and enjoys leisure with his wife. He has sons Louis and others.
