Mrs John H Mayes of this city spent Thanksgiving in El Paso with her husband newly appointed Deputy Supervisor at El Paso District No 10 by the Texas Liquor Board. Corpus Christi Officers Here For Two Prisoners

Deputy Sheriff Edwin Gouger and Captain W J Wright of the State Ranger Force traveled from Corpus Christi Wednesday to recover two men arrested earlier for automobile theft by Sheriff Geo Boothe. The detainees remain in Wilson County jail.

Lutheran Brotherhood Holds Monthly Meeting at Florésville

The First Lutheran Church chapter in Florésville held its monthly meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ellinghausen on Tuesday evening. A large attendance enjoyed an important business session followed by a social hour with games and refreshments provided by Mrs. Hinnekensen and her daughter Miss Vernon. The next meeting will be in January.

In district court session Judge Todd S B Carr presiding, three cases disposed. Buck Wiley versus W M Sowa jury disagreed and discharged. A KE Gann and others versus Mumme Wholesale settled by agreement. Mohler versus Stapper Petroleum settled by agreement. Tudyk versus Tudyk appealed from County Court. County Court judgment sustained. Quail And Trapping Seasons Now Open

The quail and trapping season opened Thursday December 1 with hunters out early. Quail are scarce this year due to drought and hindrances. Game Warden Melvin E Williams, in charge of Wilson Atascosa and Medina counties, visited the Chronicle Journal. Information for all hunters is published below as supplied by Williams. Chronicle Journal CCC Camp Bring Christmas Cheer to Kiddies

The Chronicle Journal teams with CCC Camp to deliver gifts and toys to every home. Camp personnel under W S Barcus plan toy making with cadets and Lieut Valle Jr guiding Santa’s rounds. Donors may bring used toys or cash and clothing to the Chronicle Journal office for distribution to needy families.

Baptist Ladies Here Observe December Season Of Prayer

Floresville Baptist ladies spend the December Week of Prayer led by pastor Rev. W. E. McGraw. Sunday featured foreign missions talks and a visit from Lillian Thomason, Shanghai Baptist University teacher, speaking alongside Mrs. J. T. Yancey, district Women’s Missionary Union president. Thomason detailed current hardships in China and its losses.

Wayne Connally Delivers Fine Florida Giant Watermelon

Wayne Connally, son of the County Clerk, presented a 40 to 50 pound Florida Giant watermelon to the editor on Monday morning. Plucked from the Connally ranch west of town, it was a summer crop relic kept in the front office window. The editor plans a Christmas Day showcase of the unusual fruit amid local attention.

Wilson County Red Cross enrolls 263 members in roll call

Wilson County Chapter of the American Red Cross completed another roll call with 263 annual memberships turned in by Wednesday. County chairwoman Mrs. S. J. Irwin led the drive, praised for the effort along with numerous committee members and local supporters.

Rev Foster Addresses Rotary Club in Homecoming Visit

Rev. Foster and Mrs. Foster of this city visited Alice Tuesday with their son and his wife. He spoke as principal speaker at the Rotary Ann luncheon hosted by Three Rivers Rotary Club president W. G. Seale. The Floresville pastor, former Three Rivers Rotary Club first president, enjoyed the homecoming meeting with Mrs. Foster.

Purchases of Purebred Hereford Bull by Dewees and Schif fers

Mrs Rosa Dewees and P C Schif fers expanded their stock at the Dewees ranch by purchasing a three year old purebred Hereford bull from Chas Mail of San Diego. Delivery occurred Monday. Mr Mair is praised for fine cattle entering the county.

Cuero Gobblers Roar Past Floresville Tigers for 1938 44-B Title

Cuero High School Gobblers seized the 1938 District 44-B crown with an 82 to 0 victory over Floresville, the first district championship for Cuero since 1928. The match drew 275 Floresville fans on the first special train to leave Floresville for a football game. Afterward, Cuero officials discussed bi district game plans with Pearsall, with a San Antonio hotel meeting set for Sunday to finalize site decisions.
