The Floresville Chamber of Commerce sponsors December Trade Days from Thursday to Saturday featuring local merchants such as Baumann Grocery Ben Franklin City Bakery and Richardson's Chevrolet. A Saturday 4 PM courthouse square drawing awards four cash prize certificates with per prize limits and mandatory attendee presence. winners redeem certificates only at participating member businesses.
Local Florenceville notes detail the CBS made for TV film Thaddeus Rose and Eddie shooting in and around Floresville with Johnny Cash as Thaddeus Rose and Bo Hopkins as Eddie. June Carter Cash Diane Ladd and James Hampton co star with director Jack Starrett and producers Dan Paulson Rod Sheldon. The movie is a family style project to air in spring 1978 on CBS.
The Texas Department of Water Resources announces a public hearing in San Antonio at the River Authority headquarters 100 E Guenther on December 8 starting at 1:30 p.m. Volume I of the San Antonio Basin Plan will be discussed, covering wastewater facilities, existing and future land use, and population projections across Bexar and nine adjoining counties. Volume II outlines recommended water quality management plans and required legal and financial measures.
A representative of the State Comptroller's Office will be in Wednesday December 7 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Tax Payers’ Service available in the commodoshmer.
Commerce invites families to Floresville with Santa Claus visiting downtown Thursday December 8 from 4 to 7 pm. Stores stay open late for Christmas shoppers and give free candy to children in chamber member shops. A second Santa event runs Saturday December 10 from 10 am to 4 pm at chamber member merchants downtown.
Bee County College sponsors an organizational meeting December 14 at the Floresville High School cafeteria to determine spring semester courses. No laboratory science courses will be offered in Floresville. Dennis Chandler urges prospective students to attend at 6 PM to request off campus classes and provide input for offerings. Floresville Lions Club plans a screening of the film Focus during this week’s meeting. Local members are invited to attend the presentation led by Pisha Nelson and committee members. The event aims to inform the community about the film’s goals and themes.
The second meeting of the Parent-Teacher Group will be held Tuesday evening December 6 at 7 30 in the Middle School cafeteria. Bylaws will be adopted and officers elected. Proposals can be obtained by calling Janet Gillingham at 393-6497. All teachers and parents of K 12 and preschool children are urged to attend.
The Senior Citizen advisory committee will meet December 6 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Citizen office in the Wilson County Court House Annex. Organizations seeking to assist seniors are invited to participate.
Floresville leaders form two sub committees to gather community input and report findings by November 29. A Land Acquisition Committee will locate large plots within city limits and a Fund Raising Committee will study local funding options. Mr Birdsall to bring architectural pool plans from Texas Parks and Wildlife.
November 22 twelve senior citizens rode to a Floresville area ranch four miles out where film work is underway. They greeted Johnny Cash an actor on the set making the day exciting for the group.
