Floresville Tigers Scrimmage Highlights 1972 Preseason

Floresville hosts Judson Rockets in a two touchdown scrimmage with about 800 fans watching. The Tigers show strong defense and hard running while passing remains a noted weakness as Floresville prepares for the 1972 season opening on Sept 8 against Honda Owls in Floresville.

Burglary Suspects Arrested Over $50 Theft in Stockdale

Police recovered many items including guns jewelry stereo watches color TV a stamp collection from the Stockdale home of Mr and Mrs Ray L Rawls. Rocky George Rawls 17 and Amanda Rawls Lopez 18 of Austin were charged with burglary and theft over 50. The July 29 entry led to joint efforts by Travis County and Wilson County officers and Texas Ranger Art Rodriguez. Both suspects admitted illegal entry.

Scouting adds four professionals to Alamo Area Council staff

The Alamo Area Council San Antonio announces four new Scouting staff hires and reassigned duties. Buzz Barron will coordinate Floresville Stockdale Lavemia and Wilson County Scouters. Johnny Dee Johnson becomes field director for Hill Country Tejas Valley and One Districts. Joe Ramirez leads Aztec and Polaris Districts and San Antonio Model Cities program. Ray Utley becomes Exploring executive and Ray Sanford joins as associate executive District One. Wayne Bogue also serves as district executive District One for Hill Country. E. F. Duderstadt leaves Hill Country District to direct McGimsey Scout Park construction, planned for completion by summer 1973.

Aerosol Can Explosion Shatters Funeral Director’s Truck

A Dodge pickup owned by Funeral Director George Winyard in Poth Texas had its windshield shattered last Saturday when an aerosol can on the front seat exploded. The blast, caused by heat from sun exposure, loosened bottom glass and scattered nearby Kleenex as the parked vehicle endured three hours in sun with windows up. The incident warns against leaving aerosols in vehicles.

Peanut Growers Appreciate Sherry Lynn Pageant Support

A Wilson County Peanut Growers Association letter dated August 22, 1972 from the Texas Peanut Producers Board thanks Floresville group for supporting the Fourth Annual Peanut Queen Pageant. It commends Sherry Lynn as first runner up and notes the queen will promote peanuts nationwide on radio and TV under free public service time. The board thanks the association for its time money and effort and hopes to work together again next year.

Wilson County appoints Ronnie Truax as assistant county agent

The Wilson County Commissioners Court named Ronnie Truax as Assistant County Agent. He will begin duties September 1 in the County Agent's Office at the Courthouse. He holds a B S in Animal Science from Texas Tech and an M S in Animal Nutrition from Colorado A&M. He will assist with the 4 H program and other duties yet to be designated.

SPJST Youth Club Honors First Place Winner Wanda Deagen

Miss Wanda Deagen eight year old daughter of Mr and Mrs G Gene Deagen represented SPJST Youth Club Lodge 107 at State Youth Achievement Day in Temple Texas on August 20 1972 She won First Place in Talent for a jaz acro ballet and thanks Ruth Ellis Studios San Antonio She is granddaughter of Mr Mrs Ray Dott of Texas City and Mr Mrs Otto Johns of Floresville Texas.

Orioles Trip Aces 3-2 In Bluebonnet League Playoff

In a tense best of three final, the Orioles edged the Kenedy Aces 3-2 after a late ninth inning rally. Eddie Burge pitched effectively for Kenedy before De Hoyos shut the door in relief, earning the win for the Orioles as both teams delivered sharp defense and clutch scoring in a pitchers duel.

Miss Mary Waclawczyk of Floresville daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Waclawczyk was chosen Duchess for the 28th annual Peanut Festival She attends Floresville High School and will be a senior this year She has held roles in Future Homemakers of America Bela Club Pep squad and serves as reporter and historian She selected Randy Geen as her Duke and looks forward to serving Queen Tunnep in the coming year.

Booth Space Registration For Peanut Festival

Booth registration opens September 1 1972 with first pick for clubs and non profits until September 22. From September 22 to October 11 any club nonprofit or commercial business can choose locations. Space reservations deadline October 11 1972. Fees: 5 dollars for clubs or nonprofits and 10 dollars for commercial businesses. Assignments on a first come first served basis with no changes after.

Floresville Jaycees under Tommy Chilek will host a free rest stop on Highway 181 September 1 to 4 offering coffee cookies safety literature and a relaxing area with rest room facilities for motorists. Floresville lies 30 miles south of San Antonio on the main road to Corpus Christi.

Wilson County will receive a new Home Demonstration Agent by November 1. Miss Jeanette Kratzke, BS in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota, will join after two months of work in De Witt County. She was approved by the Wilson County Commissioners Court at the August 14 meeting.
