Mrs. Vella Adams Rankin of Floresville was awarded the Master of Arts degree in exercises held Thursday at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos. She is the daughter of W F Adams and wife of Capt Oren Rankin.
Mr. Humphrey reports full cooperation from business men and citizens in a work phase involving DDT. He thanks the public for courtesies and says work will resume later.
Lt Barbee returns to Floresville and restarts his hollow tile hatchery on the highway east of town. He plans expansion and new equipment to be ready for a likely postwar boom in industry. The Barbees spent the summer in Arkansas's Ozarks.
Floresville and Poth business houses will observe the annual customs and remain closed all day next Labor Day. Customers will please take notice and make your plans accordingly.
The Kasper school begins its term on Tuesday September 4 with Miss Bernice Breeden and Nellene TM Jackson as teachers. Trustees listed include O. W. Raabe J. T. Harris and L. H. Zook.
Floresville and parts of Kosdinasko county received soaking showers late Wednesday with .37 inches reported in Floresville and as much as 1 inch in Kosdinasko. Officials say the county badly needs more rain to relieve a lengthy heat spell and drought. No other reports of rainfall elsewhere.
Last Saturday Congressman John Lyle visited the district and met many citizens including servicemen and Hamers. He spoke with veterans, expressed strong postwar support, and hoped to return for a longer stay at his first opportunity.

About 50 representative citizens from Wilson County met at the courthouse to endorse forming the Texas Turkey Triangle Inc. The gathering included farmers, turkey passers, and local leaders. W E Bugbee of the chamber praised the enthusiasm for the program and future growth in the area. Charles Henry Kunkel age 5 died at a San Antonio hospital from injuries after an auto accident Monday near his home. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Kunkel of 2214 South Brazos Street and grandson of Mrs. Bertha Kunkel. The funeral was held at St John s Lutheran Church Poth after services at Falls City. The family, including four siblings in the other car, mourns this loss.
Mr and Mrs Willie Waddwczyk hosted a dinner for their son in law Pvt Elias Urbanczyk on Sunday August 19 during his 12 day furlough from Fort Knox Kentucky. He reported to Fort Ord California for reassignment. Present were Pvt Walter Pawlek also on furlough from overseas, Otto C Dziuk S2c of Kingsville on leave, Mrs Ignac Dugi and two daughters of Corpus Christi, and numerous relatives from San Antonio Cestohowa and Panna Maria.
Black Hill Wildcats defeated Camp Ranch Tom Cats 9 to 3 in game one, after taking an eight run lead and holding the foe scoreless until late. Game two ended 4 to 2 as the Wildcats secured a seventh straight win behind pitcher Franklin.
Mr and Mrs William H Tanneberger of Wilson county died in a three way collision on the Corpus Christi highway near Hill Top twelve miles from San Antonio while returning from a business trip. Mrs Lara Lenora Tanneberger died en route to a hospital. two sons survive. Funeral services were held at Murray Funeral Home with burial at Rock Church Cemetery in Fairview. both are described as pioneer Wilson county residents.
Connally from Floresville led Alamo Jewelry to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Softball title in San Antonio. The team defeated top clubs, including Abilene, State Guards of Abilene, McCloskey General Hospital, and Carpenters of Corpus Christi, finishing with a strong record. Connally managed and played first base throughout the season, earning praise from Floresville friends.
Miss Avis Pickett, long on the West Coast, is due home this weekend to visit her sisters. She recently worked at Hanford Engineering Works in Hanford Washington for several months as an interpreter, a role she held during the period when the atomic bomb project was under development.
