Work nears completion on the Alamo Lumber Company’s new office building facing the courthouse square. Carpenters fit cabinets shelves and built in office fixtures while the large lumber shed at the rear is nearly finished. Manager Reese says occupancy expected within days.
Miss M Louise Jones filed contest proceedings with attorneys for the Democratic county executive committee and John L Hardy named as the party nominee for County Superintendent The committee declined to act saying no jurisdiction The contest was urged by Mr Mardy s attorneys The vote was ten for the motion nine against Samnes City citation Capt W L Wright and family visited Floresville en route from Kenedy to Fort Stockton after visiting D Fore and family The Wrights recently lived in Marfa and have moved through West Texas for postings
Postmaster Wm Reese announces a September 16 change to Rural Route No 1 from Floresville. The new route length expands by about two miles with a short extra segment of roughly half a mile, serving several new patrons and aiding residents on this side of the Cibolo.
Auto owners are urged to display booster stickers on their cars starting 8 October 23495 26 27 to advertise the upcoming fair. Citizens urged to spread word and take stickers from Secretary E D Beck or at the office as time nears.
A Studebaker sedan carrying a woman and three children flipped on the wet pavement near the Walter Holcombe home shortly after rain yesterday at 4 PM. The lady and oldest daughter suffered bruises and cuts. all occupants were badly shaken. The car was heavily damaged and headed to Corpus Christi when treated locally.
A heavy shower of rain fell in Floresville about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. It was a local shower and did not cover much territory, according to reports received in Floresville.
Mrs A B Murray and her daughter Miss Gertrude with Mrs W E Myers departed yesterday for a weeklong visit to Harlingen and other points in the Rio Grande Valley.
Clyde Chandler is dead and Hewlett Vosburgh is jailed after a Nixon streets shooting near dusk Tuesday night. Chandler died at the hospital from multiple wounds after the fight at the Supply Company side of the business. Osburgh and Chandler, residents of Nixon, raced toward 11:30. Vosburgh is held as the investigation continues. Chandler leaves a widow and five sons.
Jerry Richardson about 36 was found dead near his Sunnyside home two miles east of Floresville. He left a note for a brother. A World War veteran who had been away for years, he returned in May. Survived by his wife and brothers Roy Jessary and Paul Richardson.
A large cotton shipment left Floresville yesterday afternoon at 0:30. One giant truck with two trailers carried 60 bales, consigned to port warehouses at Corpus Christi.

He will face County Judge Augustus McCloskey, the Democratic nominee from Bexar County, who won in the July primary over A. D. Rogers.
Gamboge's Oxford Sybilof F, owned by Ed Franklin, is sixth among 77 Jersey cows in the Junior three-year-old class for June, with 1159 pounds of milk and 68.27 pounds of butter fat. She is outranked by Fon Owlet owned by E J Cornish of New York, which produced 1551 pounds of milk and 82.38 pounds of fat and was milked three times daily, per the Jersey Bulletin of August 27.
Midway Rural High School opens September 10 with W G Seale of Floresville chosen as principal for the year. Irene Andrus of Crystal City and Mary Cleveland of Stockdale named as teachers. Trustees are Tom Garner Fred Talley and Guy McLane. The building and grounds are being improved with additional equipment for a better year.
Rainbow Girls of Stockdale present a home talent play titled Rainbow Inn at the high school auditorium in Stockdale tomorrow night at 8 p m. The event features many local youths in the cast and the proceeds benefit the Rainbow Girls, expecting a large crowd and strong support.
Manning, who recently purchased the jewelry business of Clyde Adams, moved his stock and fixtures from the Blake building to the new Green, Houston, and Edds building completed this week. The shop, located beside the Alamo Lumber Co. office, will be fitted as a strictly up-to-date jewelry establishment with Roland Manning, son of J O Manning, in charge.
Married Sunday in San Antonio were Jewel Johnson and Lois Cox in a ceremony that surprised many friends. Lois Cox is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Cox, a Floresville to Sutherland Springs family. Jewel Johnson is the eldest son of Mrs. Lula Johnson and works at a local gin. Congratulations are extended from their community.
The Chronicle-Journal publishes the first premium awards installment for the 8th Wilson County Fair to be held October 24 to 27. The list appears on page six. readers are urged to cut it out and save it for reference. Citizens are encouraged to plan exhibits with splendid prizes offered across departments.
Wilson County’s gins had processed 8804 bales by August 16 1928 according to H J Ridout special agent. This compares with 5443 bales ginned by the same date a year earlier.
Trustees of Denhawken Sunnyside Wallace Branch Center Point Old and New Sutherland Springs Alum Swift Burris Caddo Nockenut Pandora Lily Grove Pleasant Valley and Rich ter are invited to a Stockdale meeting on Saturday at 3 pm in the Chamber of Commerce Building to discuss the new rural high school district consolidation law. County Superintendent Mr Swift and Rural Education Dept official Mr Smith will speak. The law aims to ensure every county provides boys with a fair chance.
Connally holds a large lead over Marrs and Robison with a strong majority in the race, while Terrell trails behind in the latest reporting from the district. The results indicate Connally edging ahead as the primary candidate among the opponents in this contested gubernatorial contest.
Fernando Ximenez son of Mrs J Ximenez of this city won the runoff primary for county treasurer of Jim Hog County. He defeated his nearest rival by a narrow margin, a result received here from Hebbronville. He is the son of the late Ma Mimenez, long a trusted figure in the county.
The report notes that 1841 bales were ported by three Floresville guns in a total of 618 bales.
