Floresville Public School Opens With Program Monday

Floresville celebrates opening day as the public school begins the 1935-36 session Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the high school auditorium with songs, prayers, talks, and remarks on aims, objectives, and new regulations from the Department of Education. Vocational agriculture will be introduced under Mr Lebda Kreidel to broaden the curriculum and increase affiliated units.

School opens predicts light cotton harvest in county

Wilson county expects one of the lightest cotton crops in years with a harvest not exceeding 2,500 bales. The first official government estimate was announced August 28 by Edds, a special agent.

Mrs C W Archer Receives Degree

Mrs C W Archer is reported to have received a degree in Denton Texas on August 28 in an item noting local educational achievements. The brief mentions her connection to the community and highlights the milestone within the era's social notices.

Beginning Monday September 2 this office will accept surplus 1986 cotton tax exemption certificates to surrender to the National Pool. Ferdinand Koepp Is Denied Bond

The examining trial of Ferdinand Koepp night watchman at Lavernia charged with killing J. Q. Wiseman a prominent young attorney on the streets of Lavernia on Friday August 16 was held before Justice Norvel Burney last Saturday. Two witnesses Ralph Sammons and Fred Pierdella testified for the state. No witnesses were called for Koepp. Bond was denied and he was remanded to jail to await the grand jury in district court which convenes October 28.

Atascosa Wilson FFA District Organized At Kingsville Meet

Six high school vocational agriculture departments from Wilson and Atascosa counties formed the 6th district of area ten the Kingsville district at the annual area conference in Kingsville last week S V Burkes of Poteet was elected president and group leader Leon Kreidel Floresville advisor was named secretary Woodrow Davis and James Black from Jourdanton Floresville Charlotte joined Floresville as new departments Jack Matthews and John Hagler representing Pleasanton Stockdale are noted as established departments Poteet is considered a basic department alongside Floresville and Pleasanton the district approved state standards of program work and will hold a first meeting in September with district activities to follow.

Wilson County Sees Most Amendments Approved in Election

In Wilson county the six of seven constitutional amendments carried with strong support. Old age pension 1 647 to 401 and repeal 1 456 to 500 passed, while the lone defeat was for allowing special sessions to pass amendments 787 to 844 against. Statewide five amendments approved. two rejected. Complete Wilson returns on page 7. National totals indicate varied outcomes across all counties with mixed results for amendments and textbooks funding.

Mrs. D. D. Mayfield Hurt in Auto Accident Near Falls City

Mrs. D. D. Mayfield of Black Hill sustained bruises and a broken arm in a Monday afternoon collision about three miles east of Falls City. En route to Gillette, the Mayfields crossed a narrow bridge and collided with a car driven by Jarzombeck of near Cestoho wa. Joe Myrk and drivers were uninjured, both vehicles badly damaged.

Injunction Hearing Set Again Next Monday

An injunction hearing before District Judge S. B. Carr, postponed from August 12, is reset for next Monday. A July 30 temporary restraining order blocked county officials from paying attorney fees to Wallace and Ragsdale tied to a $3,000 cash fee plus 25 percent recovery terms. A large crowd attended the first hearing and is expected again. L. H. Mitchell and family visited Pleasanton and Jourdanton Sunday.

Official name sought for Wilson County CCC erosion camp

Captain Leo A. McClatchy invites every Wilson County resident to suggest a new name for the county CCC erosion camp at Floresville. The camp is currently known as 8 C-28-T, and Major Jenkins will issue an official designation after the county committee selects a name. A formal dedication is planned once the order is issued.

Tenaha Man Named Floresville Grammar School Principal

W. J. Hill of Tenaha, a Texas University graduate, is elected principal of Floresville Grammar School succeeding Wm. H. Doyle who resigned for a position in McAllen. Hill brings six years of high school experience and is highly recommended.

Humble Station Robbed by Two at Night

Two unmasked youths 21 to 25 held up the Humble Service Station in Floresville Friday about 11 pm. Potts and Dlugosch were restrained while the cash register yielded $10.54 and fuel was taken before the pair fled. Police chased leads but made no arrests. authorities suspect the same pair hit a San Antonio station that night.

Rev McKinney Leads Revival at Sunnyside Church

Rev. W. M. McKinney pastor of Stockdale and Sunnyside conducted a week long revival at Sunnyside Church with old-time gospel sermons and songs. Several new members joined as the congregation notes recent improvements including a new concrete foundation and a 16 by 18 addition, with repainting enhancing the church property and community spirit.

Poth Feast Attracts Crowd With Barbecue and Baseball

A large crowd attended the all day Poth Catholic feast last Sunday. Attendees enjoyed barbecue dinner and supper and non stop entertainment. In the afternoon Kosciuszko defeated Poth 5 to 3 in baseball.

Commissioners Reject Road Report In Wilson County

In a special session the Wilson County Commissioners Court rejected the jury of view’s report on Highway No 97 from Floresville to Pleasanton. The plan had aimed to use WPA funding to provide winter work for relief recipients and landowners along the route and to connect with No 66 at Pleasanton and No 16 east toward Rockdale.
