Cotton Growers Warned to Keep Sales Slips for Loans
Texas cotton growers must save sales slips for 1937 cotton sold or to be sold to secure benefit payments next year. Secretary Wallace told Texas lawmakers slips serve as evidence for payments to raise prices to 12 cents a pound as Roosevelt approved. Without slips, growers risk losing payments up to 3 cents per pound, planned for next spring after signing the 1938 control program.

First Car Broom Corn Is Shipped From Floresville
Floresville leads Southwest Texas in crop shipments with spinach onions watermelons popcorn corn peanuts and cotton. The first car of broom corn out of Floresville weighed 20160 pounds and was grown by W. Ford on the Thornton ranch west of town. John L Denzy & Co of Beeville bought it for New Orleans for about 800 dollars. Broom corn is a new profitable crop for Beeville and Devine areas and Floresville sets the pace.

Cuero Texas August 24 Miss Josephine Wofford daughter of Mr and Mrs John T Wofford of this city is in a local hospital with serious injuries after an auto truck collision on the Cuero Yoakum highway two miles from Cuero Sunday night Harry Moore also of Cuero suffered painful bruises and a wrenched back M B Luker of Stockdale sustained cuts to the face and head in the same crash Miss Wofford riding in a sedan with Moore was struck broadside by a truck driven by a Stockdale man and four ribs were broken one piercing her lung Both Moore and Miss Wofford were thrown from their cars by the impact
