In his declining years he sought to make others happy through acts and words of cheer. His remains were laid to rest in Floresville cemetery Monday at ten with Rev. W N Carl conducting. He leaves his mother, sister, two brothers, and daughters, with mourners recalling his noble life. May the Heavenly Father grant peace.
A note of gratitude expresses deep appreciation for the kindness shown during the illness and death of A J Fore. It thanks Rev W N Carl for comforting words and the ladies for floral offerings and the song service at the funeral.
During Rev J E Byrd's absence pastor J L King of Smiley will fill the pulpit at Floresville Baptist Church. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend the services.
Pastor W N Carl invites all Floresville residents to a Methodist Home Coming at the church next Wednesday evening. The event welcomes all denominations and non church members to foster fellowship and social activity, with a brief program followed by a lawn social hour.
A severe storm struck Corpus Christi bringing winds of ninety miles per hour or more and heavy damage to lights, phones, homes, and property. Loss is estimated at $500,000 with no fatalities reported.
A large land deal closes Wednesday as E. T. Citend of San Antonio secures a 2408 acre ranch about 40 miles west of Uvalde. Marr will settle on his new ranch early next year, and Gilleland takes possession of his Fordia property. Floresville Public School opens September 18, delayed by a week. Supt. W. B. Toode provided the Chronicleg journal with the date.
A storm sweeping South Texas from Cotulla in La Salle County to Austin caused heavy crop losses. Feed crops sustained major damage and cotton suffered most, with open cotton beaten and green bolls dropped. Stalks were damaged, hindering new growth, as a heavy rain accompanied the wind across the region.
Floresville buyers recorded bids up to 14.85 cents per pound for cotton yesterday. A severe storm Friday night and Tuesday rain slowed ginning. By press time, Houston & Lichnovsky reported 591 bales, Seeger Gin Co. 342, Rogge & Goesch 230, totaling 1163 bales.
Local reports describe a powerful wind storm with heavy rain that caused extensive damage to cotton fields, barns, fences, windmills and trees across South Texas. Old settlers recall 1886 as the previous severe blow. The Chronicle-Journal notes community sympathy for Mr. and Mrs. Lee Braddy on the loss of twin daughters. A social item covers Miss Lillian Spruce’s 10th birthday celebration with many Floresville residents attending.
