Floresville Tigers 1972 season opens with scrimmage in San Antonio

Floresville prepares for 1972 under coach Tom Walker with shorts practice week ending August 14 and pad practice starting August 21. A Friday scrimmage vs Judson Rockets at 7 30 P M tests a predicted strong opponent as Floresville shifts to District 27AA while Judson enters District 14AAA East. Season tickets go on sale August 28 at First City National Bank with lower prices than last year.

Final date to certify peanuts and fall feed grain

Wilson County ASCS reminds producers that September 1 is the deadline to certify peanuts and fall feed grain planted since June 10. Non participating feed grain farms recently received double postcards for reporting feed grain and other bee losses from 2 4 D 5 T and fuel oils. losses will be considered for payment.

Hobby and Craft Show Planned by Wilson County Group

At a regular meeting on Tuesday August 15 the Wilson County Historical Survey Committee voted to sponsor a Hobby and Craft Show during the Peanut Festival in October. The Wardach Building next to the Fire Station will host displays by bottle button arrowhead embroidery wood paper and other handcrafts. Display tables and signs will be provided. a nominal charge of one dollar will offset costs. The committee also moved its meeting date to the first Tuesday of each month with the next gathering scheduled September 1 after Labor Day.

Jim Wright to be duke at 28th Peanut Festival Coronation

Jim Wright son of Hudell and Mrs Wright will be a duke in Floresville High School's 28th Peanut Festival Coronation. He will escort Laurie Cordes. A senior this fall he has played football three years and will join the Tiger squad. He is an honor student and represented the American Legion at Boys State in Austin this summer. He was chosen for Merit's Who's Who Among American High School Students.

Farm Bureau Film to Be Televised

The Farm Bureau in Wilson County will televise The Road to Delano at 6 p.m. Sunday August 27 on KENS TV Channel S San Antonio. The film, produced by the American Farm Bureau Federation, portrays the farm workers side of the Delano grape boycott and unionization issue.

Home Demonstration Clubs Make Peanut Butter Labor of Local Helpers

Members of the LaVerne Club and several town groups like Three Oaks and Marcelina assisted in a peanut butter making project. The James Meyer family helped daily and the final day included the father joining in, turning the work into a family affair. Visiting helpers witnessed the process of homemade peanut butter.
