Death of Lester E. Sikes Ends Pandora Ranch Life
Wilson County mourns the sudden death of Lester E. Sikes a noted rancher and farmer at his Pandora ranch home on Tuesday afternoon August 21 1951. He suffered a heart attack after assisting a tenant with grass seed. An attending Nixon doctor arrived too late. The funeral service was held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Nixon Methodist Church Rev L M Greenhaw officiating with many friends paying respects.

Scattered Rains Bring Mixed Relief Across County
The county saw irregular rainfall over the weekend with several communities reporting meaningful gains. Claude Bell reported 2.3 inches, Bart Masters 2½, Jess Bruce and D A McKenzie 3 inches on Fairview farms. rainfall favored the river, Saspamico, and Calaveras areas, while eastern sections and Kosciusko saw only sparse showers. Wreck Injures Fireman at Kelly Field Near Floresville
Jas W Deskin, son of James H Deskin of Camp Ranch near Floresville, was seriously injured in a fire truck wreck at Kelly Field Tuesday morning. He fractured his skull and is under treatment at A F B Hospital after the truck overturned in a ditch while responding to a general alarm. Another firefighter on the same truck was killed.

Thousands are expected at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Kosciusko Wilson County for the August 26 1951 dedication of the new 139500 church. An all day program includes barbecue meals music by the Lone Star Orchestra Shiner and a solemn high mass with sermon by Gilmore Guyot CM. The event honors 53 years since the first Kosciusko church and features chairs and facilities for all with ample seating and helpers.

Man Drowns In Lake South Of Bloresville Arnold
A ranch worker named Koch drowned in a lake on the Harris ranch eighteen miles south of here Tuesday night. Sheriff Paul Ermler and volunteers recovered the body on Wednesday after Koch, who could not swim, apparently fell from a boat. Koch lived with Mr and Mrs Harris for three years and disappeared before breakfast. Justice of the Peace A M Ezzell of Poth conducted the inquest. Koch was born in Lavaca County.

Wilson County has ginned 1770 bales of cotton up to Monday night in August. The county turned out 770 bales of cotton for the season so far, but estimates of the probable total crop are difficult due to severe drought causing great damage to a promising crop.

Floresville School District opens for full day on Tuesday
Floresville Consolidated Independent School District will open for a full day on Tuesday September 2 at 850 in the morning and close in the afternoon. Passes will be issued and cafeteria meal tickets for elementary children will cost 25 cents. All first grade children must have birth certificates and proof of smallpox vaccination. All faculty, bus drivers and cafeteria workers will report Monday evening September 2. High school schedules will be mailed this week and start dates noted for September 3 and 4.
