Voters are urged to participate as several key races appear on the ballot. U.S. Senate candidates include Farle B. Mayfield of Bosque County, Tom Connally of Falls County, and Barry Miller of Dallas County. State Superintendent nominees are S. M. Marrs of Travis County and W. F. Garner of Nacogdoches County. Commissioner of General Land Office contenders are J. T. Robison of Morris County and Otis Terrell of Travis County.
The Chronicle-Journal urges election officials in Wilson County to cooperate in sending runoff primary results to its office tomorrow night. The paper will wire the data to the Texas Election Bureau in Dallas for release to state papers. Officials are asked to call with returns from their boxes.
Notary public in Dallas County notes Tom Connally denies any membership or application to the Ku Klux Klan amid campaign attacks. He calls accusations false, stating a smear by opponents in the U.S. Senate race aims to mislead voters.
The Floresville Baptist Church accepted the resignation of Rev. A. B. Weathersby after two years of service. The popular pastor leaves with the church enjoying progress and the town regretting his departure. His future location and exact move date will be decided later, with the resignation effective within thirty days.
Donsho of Poteete and Donaho associated with a Robstown rocery business depart after a ceremony for Kerrville and San Antonio. They visit Floresville relatives en route to Robstown. The paper joins friends in extending congratulations and best wishes.
The note invites members to a sermon by Dr Sessions next Sunday on the 26th at 11 a.m. and welcomes all attendees. D Scarborough, Pastor, signs the card.
A man was fired upon while driving between Karnes City and Kenedy in Texas. Three shots were fired. the victim, Landay, escaped unharmed and was taken to San Antonio. A trial of a car involved in the case has occurred, with a jury unable to reach a verdict. The Southwest Texas Fair Circuit announces its calendar of county fairs from August 24 to November 10 across Gillespie to Nixon, with sanctions and gatherings planned in Boerne, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, Seguin, Gonzales, Beeville, and Victoria region communities. The circuit holds annual meetings to coordinate fair dates and racing purses, aiming to boost agriculture and livestock shows.
A. J. Postert, a Fairview dairy farmer, bought eight registered Jersey heifers and a registered Jersey male from Ed Franklin. He notes his prior Jersey purchases have paid for themselves in about 14 months and credits strong profits to good foundation stock.
John H. Myers, a Floresville resident, and his aunt Mrs. Kate Allen, who were riding to San Antonio when their truck hit a southbound freight train near Elmendorf, are both said to be improving. Myers returned home from Franklin hospital and is up but cannot attend to farm duties while Mrs. Allen remains in a San Antonio hospital but is improving.
Union services held on the church lawn each Sunday evening in July and August will end next Sunday at 8 p.m. Rev. J. F. Archer will deliver the message. Attendees urged to join. C. D. Bates, AB. Weathersby, D. Scarborough, pastors.
The Atascosa County Fair in Pleasanton Texas plans its September 20 to 22 program. Committees and chairmen for livestock, agriculture exhibits, cattle and dairying, poultry, parade, homes, coronation and ladies divisions are listed with numerous local names and towns such as Poteet Three Rivers La Parita Davistown Verdi and Amber.
South Texas counties were represented as Floresville attendees joined Connally. Eastern Star holds an angular meeting Monday night with invitations extended. Mrs. Mattie Johnson and Miss Lucy Neal sign off the notice urging full participation.
Up to press time yesterday afternoon the Floresville gins reported a total of 1318 bales ginned. The Loma Vista gin reported 480 bales while the Dewees Bechenburg-Schneider gin had ginned 645 bales by 4 o'clock yesterday, per the Chronici.
County exhibits arranged to avoid conflicts as Gillepsie opens today showcasing thirteen fairs in South Texas this season with events ready across the region.
Election returns from the Texas Election Bureau at Dallas will be received tomorrow night starting about 8 o clock. Three state offices are heavily contested and there is strong public interest in the results. The public is invited to hear the returns at the Dallas office.
An opinion from the attorney general’s department states that knowledge of English and ability to read or speak English are not required qualifications for voters. The opinion was issued in reply to a letter from Cameron County judge Volney W. Taylor, chairman of the county Democratic committee. A copy of the opinion will be provided to judges of election in the run off primary.
A large all day celebration is planned in Kosciusko Texas on Sunday September 2 featuring music games and amusements. Barbecued meats sausage and chicken stew will be served for dinner and supper. Everyone is invited to attend.
Mrs. Jesus Ximénez suffered burns at her home west of the railroad on a Wednesday morning when kerosene oil used to clean the floor ignited. Her injuries are not considered serious.
J. H. Mayes of this city acts as race judge for the South as Tal officiates. He travels to Fredericksburg Saturday to officiate at the Gillespie Fair race events.
