Residents of Wilson County await county agent E D Beck’s duties set for August fifteenth. The discussions cover maize and feterita collection, central Brazos County concerns, and the general average northern region. Some families join a local school near Denton as part of the unfolding arrangements.
Jury of the Island Red Club distributed sixteen prize ribbons in the Single Comb variety. Winners should send their names and ribbons to Doane 2 in Grand Saline Texas for card submission.
Old Timers will entertain crowds with fiddling as entries from distant places are expected. Plans are underway for a fair program featuring an old fiddlers contest alongside community events.
Wilson County Fair Association to stage an old time fiddlers contest during the fair October 31 to November 3. Competent judges and attractive prizes promised. Secretary J J Greathouse invites interested fiddlers to enter and asks communities to recruit participants for a popular feature expected to draw large crowds.
An all-area mass meeting of turkey raisers is planned at the Caddo school house on Saturday night September 1 at 8 oclock. The goal is to form an organization to market and pool turkeys for this fall sale, with county-wide action expected. All turkey raisers are invited and a large turnout is hoped.
In Poth Independent School District voters approved a $20,000 bond by 88 to 78 out of 166 ballots. The measure funds a new brick school building and plans and specifications are to be prepared soon to begin construction on a modern facility.
A civil service examination will be held in Floresville on Saturday September 15 1923 for the position of clerk in the Floresville post office. Application blanks and further information can be obtained from Postmaster Wm Reese.
Nixon residents and Cuero boosters attended a mass meeting where Gonzales County officials backed a bond issue to finance the road from San Antonio toward Cuero along the Glacier to Gulf Highway. Campaign chairman Townes leads the effort as counties along the route face a deadline to secure federal and state aid. Wilson County has approved its share. DeWitt and Gonzales have yet to act.
South Texas educators prepare for the Southwest Texas Teachers Institute at George W Brackenridge High School in San Antonio from September 8 to 13. Twenty counties participate with leaders Dr Jeremiah Brodes and C I Arnold. current program notes and room assignments for Wilson and Floresville teachers. County Superintendent J E Swift predicts a highly beneficial gathering with all county teachers required to attend.
A C Dulling of Pioneer Flour Mills San Antonio said his firm will likely have a display at the Wilson County Fair as in previous years. H C Maggard Maxwell House Coffee has secured space and fair officers expect more local displays in the new exhibition building. those seeking space should contact Secretary J J Greathouse or Sam Fore Jr promptly.
Plans are made for the State to take over the Brenner Experimental Station at the new bridge. Hy Brenner will continue directing the station under state control. Buildings will be erected and grounds turned into a public park for recreation. The station aims to aid the Southwest beer industry and invites visits from interested parties. Prof Parks of the Bee Experimental Station at San Antonio visited Seguin last week.
Floresville reports 2005 bales of cotton ginned by three local gins up to Thursday night since the first bale on July 25. The gins averaged about 7 bales per day over 26 ginning days. Poth gins have 1677 bales, and local leaders expect the season to reach 5500 to 6000 bales with favorable luck.

Walter Withers was bucked by a horse while rounding mules in Stockdale Texas on August 22 Friday evening when the animal ran into a post and fell on him breaking bones in his left foot.
Mrs John He Mayes has been in San Antonio for three days at the bedside of her mother Mrs W C Gorham of Stockdale who underwent a very serious operation at a city hospital. Gorham is well known here and friends hope the operation proves successful and that she will suffer no serious complications.
Austin August 22 The State Highway Commission announced highway construction aid totaling 1 688 668 at its regular meeting Dallas County received 175 000 for State Highway No 6 King of Trails Wilson County was allotted 415 000 with 215 000 for highways 13 and 29 and 200 000 for Highway 9.
A Pleasanton Texas businessman A P Langford was killed when a rifle he was cleaning discharged on Monday August 20. He died within minutes and his body was taken to Bandera for burial. He leaves a widow two young sons his mother and several brothers.
