The Women’s Christian Temperance Union increases the comfort bag offerings for soldiers, adding more useful items beyond the initial supply. The effort continues through various groups and articles, with emphasis on support for the boys and a spirit of charity as fall events approach.
In San Antonio last Sunday memories of days past surfaced as troops, led by officers and men of the Second Texas, reflected on a notable visit. Recruits and veterans alike felt a strong impact, while plans to depart for future duties were already in motion with final orders received yesterday.
A group including Messrs E R Shedden E V Johnson A D Paulus and the writer toured San Antonio last Friday visiting Camp Pryor with Battery D Second Texas Field Artillery and Camp Travis. Officers and staff moved efficiently while camps and new buildings rose and roads were laid. The trip continued to Kelsey Field admired as a future major aviation site with numerous hangars and ongoing clearing work. The day ended back at Camp Pryor at six with a grateful note from the travelers and the doc in attendance.
The A and M College explains the pink boll worm originated from a small dark brown moth whose eggs hatch near the boll end. The white grub tunnels through boll partitions and the worm has proven extremely destructive, seen in Asia Africa Brazil and Hawaii, capable of destroying 50 to 99 percent of cotton. With crop value estimated at 1.5 billion dollars the harm is clear.
A man named William Rogers from Wilmington North Carolina was arrested in Lodi for burglary and theft of over $50 after being shadowed by night watchman R L Powell. An examining trial set bail at 500 dollars per charge, but he could not make bond and was remanded to jail.
A. L. Baker of Stockdale publisher of the Stockdale Times and longtime eastern county figure was elected secretary treasurer of the State Farmers Union at a Dallas meeting last week. He will soon move to Fort Worth to assume duties, having previously held the office. The Chronicle Journal extends congratulations and best wishes for his success.

Miss Annie Culpepper and Mr Marshall Hunt were married last Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs M C Culpepper in Culpepper. The couple plans a married life of happiness and success.
Miss El Genia Lamb of Batesville Miss and Frank Dubois of Coma Miss were married last Friday morning at the Menger hotel in San Antonio. Lamb has taught expression in Floresville and Karnes City while Dubois trains at Camp Funston. Mrs Dubois will teach expression at Goliad High School. Chronicle Journal extends best wishes.

Dallas Aug 22 Although returns were incomplete it was evident the constitution amendment authorizing conservation and reclamation districts for natural resources storm water storage and distribution carried by about 3 to 1. The vote was light but favored in practically all sections.

Prices 26 cents for cotton and 60 dollars for seed circulated yesterday in Flor esville. Gins reported up to press time include Houston Lichnovsky Gin Co with 325 round bales and 29 square bales, Seeger Gin Co with 52 bales, and Rogge and Goesch with 14 bales.
