Floresville Tigers Open 1973 Practice With Scrimmage Hopes

Floresville High School begins conditioning ahead of the 1973 season under Coach Smith. Junior Johnny Deagen suffers a broken ankle in practice. The Tigers host Judson Rockets in a Friday scrimmage at Floresville, with Canyon and Honda away games to follow. Season tickets on sale at First City National Bank. Floresville cheerleaders win ribbons at Houston camp led by head cheerleader Aurora Gonzales.

Gonzales PCA Seminar Held in Kerrville

Directors of Gonzales Production Credit Association will hear a top national leader on director responsibility at a PCA Director Manager Seminar in Kerrville on Friday August 2. Participants include Paul Williams Poteet Heinie Bade Cuero Ray M Flanden San Antonio E C Mahan Leesville and Howard Stanfield Karnes City. Frank J Boehm and Gordon Seidel, both Gonzales, will accompany the group. Dr Vernon E Schneider former American Institute of Cooperation president and Texas A&M professor will outline director duties before more than 75 attendees. The seminar targets association directors with emphasis on duties responsibilities and decision analysis.

Texas DPS Warns 42 May Die In Labor Day Traffic

Colonel Wilson E Speir director of the Texas Department of Public Safety warned that 42 persons may lose their lives in Texas traffic during the Labor Day weekend. The holiday runs from 6 p m Friday August 31 to midnight Monday September 3. Patrols will monitor hazardous violations such as speeding reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.

St Ann's Parish Kosciuszko Wilson County announces a Diamond Jubilee on Sunday August 26 1973. A full day schedule includes a 11 00 A M Holy Mass concelebrated by Archbishop Francis J Furey with local priests, dedication of a church monument and blessing of stained glass windows, followed by a 1 00 P M barbecue and Polish sausage feast, 2 30 P M Krakowiaki Polish dance and daylong entertainments including a country store and music by Charlie Tousek and The Abbey for a dance.

Don Lotspeich State Finals Pole Bending

In Kingsville Texas the Texas Youth Rodeo Association State Finals ran August 15 to 18 1973. Don Lotspeich 12 competed in seven rodeos earning points to reach the top 25 and finish 13th in go round one 10th in go round two and 7th in the average. He enters the finals 17th overall as the eldest son of Smokey Lotspeich.

Summer Reading Certificates Planned for Floresville Regions

Sam Fore Jr Wilson County Library processes reading records for about 750 readers from Floresville and branches in Poth Stockdale and LaVemia. Librarian J T Jaeggli says certificates will be distributed through the respective school systems and hoped to be ready by the last week of August.

D G Hudson acting manager of the San Antonio office says claimants can appeal any denied benefits. He notes few disallowed applicants pursue appeals. A representative will be at the Floresville Courthouse on Thursday August.

Local Board 78 Relocated to Seguin Texas

Colonel Melvin N. Glantz announced Local Board No. 78 moved from Karnes City to the Agriculture Building in Seguin effective immediately. The Seguin office serves Local Boards 55 and 78 and meetings stay in Karnes City Library. Registrants must register within 30 days of 18th birthday and may contact Seguin office or appointed registrars in Wilson or Karnes counties.
