Floresville Girls Win La Vernia Softball Title Again
Floresville's softball team clinched their third consecutive tournament title at La Vernia with an 8 to 2 final over La Vernia as Diane Frick again starred with nine straight wins. The team earlier claimed Floresville and Devine tourney titles and suffered a setback in the Perry Winkle Memorial opener against Honda. Local revival speaker Dr. Arthur Tyson, president of Mary Hardin Baylor, will preach at First Baptist Floresville August 25 to September 1, with talks August 27 and 28 inviting all residents.

Southern Pacific depot agent and telegraph operator E. McKee of Saspamco has a stroke and lies unconscious at Santa Rosa Hospital. Aged about 58, he was found Friday night after a missing-room alarm, with T. L. Stephenson reporting he remains unconscious. His father lives in Arkansas and he has a brother in Louisiana.

Alien Booked After Slaying: Bond Denied
Joe Flores Jr a 17 year old was shot six times in the head chest and arms outside a dance hall at Canada Verde about 11 30 Saturday night and died. His brother in law Camargo Padillas 26 was shot through the jaw and shoulder and remains in Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. Magdaleon Dimas 20 was arrested and denied bail after an examining trial. Dimas a Mexican alien deported to Mexico three years ago returned in 1955 and worked as a farm laborer near Floresville and Rio Grande City. The case was interrogated by sheriff and Justice of the Peace J G Youngblood.

Wilson County plans near completion for a countywide memorial hospital fund closing rally on Saturday night August 31 in Floresville. More than 600 volunteers from Floresville Lions Club Chamber of Commerce Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary LULAC Wilson County Home Demonstration Clubs and Farm Bureau join to support. 3,000 people are expected. Floresville School Band starts the evening with eats and games follow with entertainment Avie Teltschik and his Junior Band perform after the main program. This is everybody’s rally for Wilson County’s needs.

The colored citizens of Floresville announce a fundraising event Saturday August 24 for Memorial Hospital. Barbecued beef mutton and chicken will be sold from 11:30 at the back of Eschenburg's Store with Benny Roberts and Rosser Walker in charge. A pie and cake sale also at the hall begins at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds support the hospital fund.
