County fair organizers announce a poultry demonstration and tree pruning exhibit led by W. Reese and W. H. Hous. Boost community participation by preparing exhibits and marking the dates October 23 to 26.
Comfort Texas marked its 75th founding anniversary with an estimated crowd of 10 000. Governor Dan Moody spoke as bands from five nearby towns played. A reunion of early settlers was a featured event with many from Wilson County attending including the Roemer and Allerkamp families visiting old friends and relatives.
A motorcade of 23 cars and 85 people from Pleasanton and Atascosa County visited Floresville to promote the Atascosa County Fair in Pleasanton August 28 29 30 31. They lunched at Pecan Grove Tourist Park and praised Floresville’s hospitality before parading through town and concluding with a brief program at the First National Bank corner.
Up to yesterday afternoon Fiores cilie had shipped 10 carloads of corn with 5 more cars in progress near the old Alamo Lumber Co. Labatt had shipped 3 cars and Calaveras 8. Pay up your subscription promptly.
A motorcade from Atascosa visited Ed Floresville last Friday, boosting attendance for a fair to be held at Pleasant from August 28 to 31. The group spent the noon hour in the town, signaling community support for the upcoming event.
Am Memene Co handsomely enhances A. W. Murray & Co. furniture dealers and funeral directors by adding a modern eight cylinder Gard ner ambulance. The vehicle doubles as a hearse and ambulance with spotlight, fan, siren and full equipment. Murray remodelled the building, added a funeral parlor with three rooms, a reception area and mortuary, reinforcing the firm as a leading local undertaker.
O Porter and his daughter Miss Mary Bell of Pettus spent last Friday with the Tipton family here. Mrs Porter, ill for some time, has been the guest of her brother J M Tipton for several days and they came up to be with her.
Seventeen counties will attend a San Antonio meeting at George W Brackenridge High School September 2-6. Noted educators from Chicago Wisconsin Michigan and Texas will speak alongside university and college professors. The group includes Dr. Burton Dr. Freeman Dr. Schorl ing Dr. Cocking Miss Martin and more.
A sizable crew works on Highway 16 to rush a temporary all weather road project. The State Highway Department will take over the job as crushed rock and caliche are prepared for quick completion.
The State Highway Department moved to complete the Wilson Karnes gap by building a temporary all weather road. About 100 trucks and workers were deployed. Wilson County end will receive crushed rock while Karnes County end will use caliche. Construction began Sept 11 1928 in Wilson and Nov 8 in Karnes. The project shifts to maintenance with E L Marek as resident engineer. The new bridge at Falls City opened recently, and traffic is redirected during ongoing work.
Floresville and Wilson County Day planned for the Atascosa County Fair in Pleasanton runs Friday to Monday. Old settlers from Floresville and Wilson County are invited, with a motorcade from Floresville leaving the court house square at 9 30 a m Friday, fueling hopes of 25 cars and windshield stickers promoting the fair. Local officials and Chamber of Commerce are coordinating events, while Judge E D Mayes invited all to attend. District Judge W O Murray and De Witt Murray recently returned from a Rio Grande Valley trip.
The Wilson County Fair Association printed one thousand windshield stickers for the 9th annual fair to be held October 23 26. Stickers are free to anyone who wants them and can boost publicity for trips outside the county. If a sticker wears off, a fresh one can be obtained at filling stations or from Secretary E. D. Beck or assistant secretary H. C. Wells.
