Karnes County Eyes Trimmed Budget to Avoid Tax Hike
Karnes County could approve a 1996-97 budget about 71,200 below current levels while keeping the 0.7520 tax rate if department cuts and a 1.5 percent Road and Bridge trim are adopted. A shift to the effective rate 0.7667 would raise 39,641, but the proposed cuts totaling about 61,000 in the General Fund plus 10,200 from Road and Bridge aim to prevent any tax increase. The commission meets Friday to approve the budget and tax rate with October 30 as the target date for final figures.
