The peanut festival kicks off Friday at 10 AM with a parade. Queen Tu maep VI will be crowned Saturday at 8 PM in an open air Twilight ceremony at the Athletic Field. A court of 75 to 100 participants will join the queen for the Grand March at the Wilson County courthouse.
The Saspamco Pipers defeated the Macdona Tigers 6 to 0 at the factory town diamond last Sunday. They will host Fred's Place Marines at Saspamco next Sunday August 24 at 3 30.
Congressman John E. Lyle of Corpus Christi will attend the Floresville Peanut Festival opening on Friday September 8. He will ride in the parade and speak at the courthouse in the afternoon choosing his own subject. Floresville and Wilson County previously welcomed the congressman to last year’s festival.
The Vandercook School of Music of Chicago closed a two week annual clinic at Texas College in Seguin with a mass concert at Max Starcke Park. Thousands cheered the 110 piece band and over 100 twirlers from Southwest Texas. Floresville School Band helped in the finale with Miss Minifred Teltschik directing to play The Hall Fame March. Additional names include Marcylee Adams Johnson Roe Mer Carnes Roemer Voges Blohm Schroller Avie Teltschik and Minifred Teltschik.
Boerne August 20 The combined precincts of Bexar county pledged full support to the building amendment in a special election August 23. Texas State Grange Master A F Leesch said Granges back the plan as vital to educational progress and to fund a 60 million dollar 30 year development for colleges and universities with no tax increase.
Angsville August 19 Senator Rogers Kelley of Edinburg will deliver the commencement address at the Texas A and I College graduation exercises tonight Friday August 22 at 8 pm. Approximately 90 degrees including 22 Master’s Degrees will be conferred.
Miss Minifred Teltschik daughter of Floresville School Band director Fritz Teltschik is one of the trumpet instructors at the Van dercook School of Music in Chicago and is to be at Hardin-Simmons University Abi lene for two weeks. A Trinity University San Antonio alum, she earned honors in San Marcos Battle of Flowers Fiesta Contest in San Antonio Seguin Music Clinic and other venues.
WOAI San Antonio will air Red River Dave from Floresville Arcadia Theatre on September 8 at 11 45 AM to 12 noon. The broadcast promotes the Floresville Peanut Festival on September 6 7 with local talent possibly featured. No admission charge. Further details to follow.

The Floresville Peanut Festival invites national attention as Ralph McMillen becomes President of the National Peanut Council and plans to open the festival with an open parade and Farmers' Program. The crash on the Corpus Christi Highway six miles north of Floresville left George Morisse Jr. with a lost left arm and severe injuries. Fireman 31, of No. 6 station, received emergency blood transfusions at Robert B. Green Hospital after his car collided with a southbound Roegelein Provision Co truck from San Antonio. His wife, treated for shock at M and S Hospital, accompanied him. Morisse had joined the Neve fire department after serving in World War II.
Eastern Star Chapter Florestille honors Myrtle O Neall on Tuesday night August 12 at 8 with a farewell gathering at the Park on Pleanton Highway before she leaves for Sabinal to teach. Myrtle, a longtime member and past Worthy Matron, noted for her work as 350 members and visitors enjoyed ice cream and cake after Mrs. Cleo Spruce praised her service.
