Lodi Scouts Honor Winners at Wilson County Park

Troop 188 of Lodi School led by Path Troop 105 earned top honors at the Wilson District Boy Scout Court of Honor held openly at Wilson County Park near Stockdale. About 100 citizens attended as Norman Kosarek and Lawrence Reinhard of Path Troop 105 received Eagle Scout awards in a ceremony lit by torches.

Local graduate named home economics teacher at Floresville High

Miss Mildred McDaniel, a Kingsville A and I College graduate, has been elected home economics teacher at Floresville High School. She succeeds Miss Dorothy Brown, and is the daughter of Mrs. Lee McDaniel. She earned her degree last June and was active in college organizations including the A Capella Choir.

Doctor Edward Ximenes Promoted to First Lieutenant in U S Army

Dr Edward Ximenes a Floresville native and son of Joe J Ximenes has been named First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the United States Army He interns at a large Omaha hospital and may be called to active service soon He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Texas University Galveston in June and recently received his license and official appointment from the President Our congratulations and best wishes to this deserving young man

Co-Operating Farmers May Now Obtain 85 Per Cent of Parity Loan

Wilson County cotton farmers cooperating with the AAA program can secure 85 percent of parity government loans on their 1941 production. AAA chair John Bednarz notes the national basic rate for 4-8 inch middling cotton is 14.02 cents per pound with a parity of 16.49, compared with 8.90 cents in 1940. The August 1, 1940 marketing year shows an average 16-16 inch middling cotton net weight rate of 14.82 cents per pound. See CO-OPERATING on Page 8.

Toman Promoted To S. P. Engineer

A. W. Toman, recently promoted to locomotive engineer on the Southern Pacific Lines, now runs between Del Rio and Sanderson. He visited his parents at Poth over the weekend, renewed his home county paper, and received congratulations from friends on his well earned promotion.

Texas Peanut Growers Promised $88 Per Ton

College Station reports Texas peanut growers will receive a price of 88 dollars per ton for No 1 peanuts produced on AAA designated acreage. Rénnels, assistant in charge of AAA administration in Texas, announced the guarantee.

New Music and Physical Education Courses at Floresville School

Floresville schools will offer a complete music program for all grades in 1941-42 with instrumental and choral options. High school credit may count toward graduation if approved by the Department of Education. Mr Fritz Teltschik directs instrumental music. choral position pending. physical education for boys led by Woodrow Petty and girls by Opal Chance.

Floresville area women are urged to sew at home during September due to school opening and the Peanut Festival. Peanut Warehouse Opened for 41 Crop Movement

The bonded peanut warehouse near here, run by J. T. Sheehy for the Southwest Peanut Growers Association, opened and is ready for the 41 crop movement with 1,000 tons capacity. About six carloads have been loaded so far, with yesterday’s prices at $1.32 No 1, $1.23 No 2, and $1.12 1/2 No 3. A farmer received over $300 for a truckload amid ongoing harvest activity. early peanuts are light but later yields could improve with more rain.

Fire Destroys John Hayden Home in Fairview

The John Hayden residence in Fairview was completely destroyed by a Sunday night fire about 8 o'clock. Family members were at church. sons told the Chronicle-Journal they suspect the blaze started from a kerosene refrigerator. Neighbors saved only a few furniture items. insurance was believed to cover the dwelling and contents.

Wilson County Farmers to Study Soil Building Practices

Wilson County farmers will study soil building as final provisions of the 1942 farm program are drafted. William E. Moss, secretary of the Wilson County AAA Committee, said emphasis will shift to conservation and soil building on individual farms. Soil-building allowances will determine maximum payments, contingent on Congress annual appropriation.

Chas McDaniel of Floresville announced a new 1941 Ford panel delivery truck to upgrade service at his dairy on the highway east of Floresville. The dairy operates a barn and equipment and invites the public to view the improved facility as one of the state's most up to date plants.

200 000 in CCC Camps To Get Drill Training

Washington Aug 18 Training in marching and simple formations per army infantry drill regulations was ordered for the 200,000 CCC men. CCC director James J McEntee said the boys would not be given guns and stressed this is not putting the corps in the military establishment.

Peanut Festival to Feature Floresville Event in September

Spanish Peanuts boost Wilson County income over 150000 yearly and will be highlighted at the Fourth Annual Peanut Festival in Floresville on September 26 27. Citizens voted to decorate businesses with peanut vines and plan banners and a giant sign on the courthouse square to advertise the crop. A parade led by A C Eeschenburg will open the festival with bands from Floresville Path and Peanut Threshers and other bands possibly joining. An army display and a carnival are planned with Old Pioneers Day and Old Fiddlers’ Can as featured events. Governor Stevenson may attend to officially open the festival.

Airplane Crash Near Floresville Parade Sunday News

Airplane piloted by Stone Quillian crashed in a mesquite thicket north east of Floresville before noon Sunday. Quillian escaped unhurt save for a slight scratch, after his Aeronca two seater stalled and failed to land at the Wilson County fair grounds during a cross country solo flight from Stinson Field to Pleasanton and back.

Bible School Closes After Two Weeks of Lessons

Floresville Methodist Church completed a two week Vacation Bible School with final services at 11 o'clock. The program featured a lively show by the youth highlighting lessons learned and progress made during the session. Miss Na Witight presented remarks at the close.
